Actos Lawsuit Information

If you or someone you know has been on ACTOS for Type 2 Diabetes, here is a website link that you NEED to look at. I see my role as a BLOGGER to point you in the right direction of valuable information and to get you to investigate things for yourself. That especially includes prescription drugs and their dangerous and sometimes FATAL side effects.

Actos and GlaxoSmithKline’s Avandia, another medication prescribed for the treatment of diabetes, are members of the thiazolidinedione (TDZ) class of drugs. Currently the world’s best-selling diabetes medication, Actos became the leader in the diabetes-drug market after a 2007 study showed Avandia users have a 43% higher risk of having a heart attack.Given the significant heart-attack risk linked to Avandia, the FDA has issued requirements mandating that doctors only prescribe Avandia to patients who have failed therapy with Actos. That may change, however, as the adverse effects of Actos become better known.

Bladder Cancer Sufferers Are Filing Actos Lawsuits

Based on research that shows a link between taking Actos and developing bladder cancer, the Food and Drug Administration (the “FDA”) on Aug. 5, 2011, said it had approved changing the pioglitazone label to state that pioglitazone should not be prescribed to patients with bladder cancer and that the drug should be used with caution for those with a history of bladder cancer. Nevertheless, the FDA has not announced an Actos recall. That has not stopped hundreds of bladder cancer sufferers from filing Actos lawsuits, however. To file a lawsuit for injuries you suffered as the result of a medicine you took, that medicine doesn’t have to have been recalled.

Former Takeda Employee Alleges Fraud

In March 2012, a former employee at Takeda announced that she had filed an Actos whistle-blower lawsuit against the company based on the federal False Claims Act and similar state statutes. The employee, Helen Ge, alleges that Takeda engaged in “systemic fraud and deceit” by classifying Actos users’ heart congestion symptoms in a way that contravened the FDA’s adverse event reporting regulations.According to Ge’s complaint, Takeda staff “improperly instructed its medical reviewers to change their professional opinion regarding adverse event classifications and assessments” between 2007 and 2010, when the complaint was filed. After warning her superiors that reducing the Actos congestive heart failure classifications was improper, Takeda fired Ge. The U.S. Department of Justice and analogous state agencies have declined to intervene on her behalf. Nevertheless, Ge might be able to obtain 15-30% of the hundreds of millions of dollars in damages that would be paid to the governments involved.

I started taking Actos in 2005 for about 2 years. Between 2005 and 2008 I've been hospitalized 3 times for what I considered chest pains. I am a disabled Vet diagnosed with GERDS, so that was was always the doctor's conclusion of what was wrong. But I was later diagnosed with esophagitis and bleeding ulcer. I was wondering if Actos was a cause of any of this.

MORE DANGEROUS SIDE EFFECTS OF PRESCRIPTION DRUGS

I am going to post a link here that you need to read. It concerns itself with dangerous side effects of common prescription drugs. You absolutely MUST do some home work yourself to stay informed of side effects of prescription drugs. DON'T ever let your doctor just put you on a new or replacement prescription drug without FIRST going home and looking up on Google all the specific side effects so that you will KNOW IF YOU START GETTING THEM.

You can let him or her write you a script for the drug, however I would advise against filing it and starting on it until and unless you look up ALL THE SIDE EFFECTS OF THAT DRUG, AND NOT JUST THE MOST COMMON ONES.

Low Carb Diet Shows PROMISE for Type 2 Diabetics

I came across some recent research which show promise to the NEW (OLD) low carbohydrate diet treatment for type 2 diabetics. This is essentially a study I guess on the Atkins Low carb lifestyle and NOT surprisingly, it seems to work as well or better than anything else. I will post the link and the research here:

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/international-study-demonstrates-power-low-150000909.html;_ylt=A2KLOzKMN5BQ.wMAV_bQtDMD

MOST type 2 diabetics eat too many refined carbohydrates and nutritionally deficient and sugar laden foods. The study shows that eating less carbs, lower overall glycemic foods, more protein and healthy fats leads towards a healthier lifestyle.

Dan

EXCERPTS:

DENVER, Oct. 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The World Health Organization estimates that approximately 347 million people worldwide have diabetes and this figure is expected to increase by two thirds by 2030. A new international study published in the October issue of the medical journal Nutrition, compared low-carb with low-calorie diets in obese and diabetic patients and found that a low-carb approach, such as the Atkins Diet, can assist in reversing this global trend. The study found that health markers improved more substantially in the low-carb group and diabetic patients experienced positive markers for longer term blood sugar readings.
Of 363 overweight and obese patients, which were recruited for a 24-week diet intervention trial, 102 of the patients had type-2 diabetes. The patients in the low-carb group saw positive improvement in their health markers, which were measured at two week intervals over the period. Health markers measured included: body weight, body mass index (BMI), blood glucose level, total cholesterol and triglycerides among others.
In particular, the low-carb diet had significant positive effects on body weight, waist measurement, serum triacylglycerols and glycemic control in participants with type-2 diabetes. Most impressively, there was a high level of improvement in the marker for longer term blood sugar readings (HbA1c). This improvement in glycemic control was due in most part to diet, because the diabetics reduced by half or discontinued their medications at the beginning of the study. During the study, participants, who reported cravings or reached half their weight loss goal, were instructed to eat more vegetables such as salad greens or other low-carb vegetables, cheese, nuts or other low-carb snacks.
Atkins Supports Healthy Blood Sugar Levels
Similar to the low-carb diet followed in the study, the Atkins Diet, the original and leading low-carb weight loss plan, recommends a wide array of vegetables, low glycemic fruits, whole grains, healthy fats and adequate proteins. Supported by over 80 independent, peer-reviewed studies, Atkins™ is a long-term, well balanced diet that teaches individuals to find their own personal carb balance, to maintain healthy blood sugar levels, by slowly adding more foods to their diets while continuing to lose weight or maintain weight loss long term.

14 For the body is not one member, but many.
15 If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
16 And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
17 If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?
18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.

EXCERPTS:

Good nutrition is important to keep your eyes healthy and functioning their best throughout your lifetime. Two very important eye nutrients that may reduce your risk for macular degeneration and cataracts have names you may not be familiar with: lutein (LOO-teen) and zeaxanthin (zee-ah-ZAN-thin).
Lutein and zeaxanthin are compounds called xanthophylls (ZAN-thuh-fills), which are yellow pigments that occur naturally in many plants and vegetables. Xanthophylls belong to a class of organic compounds called carotenoids, which also includes orange and red plant pigments. Though lutein is considered a yellow pigment, in high concentrations it appears orange-red.
In nature, lutein and zeaxanthin appear to absorb excess light energy to prevent damage to plants from too much sunlight, especially from high-energy light rays called blue light.
Cooked spinach is one of the best natural food sources of lutein and zeaxanthin.
Cooked spinach is one of the best natural food sources of lutein and zeaxanthin.
In addition to being found in many green leafy plants and colorful fruits and vegetables, lutein and zeaxanthin are found in high concentrations in the macula of the human eye, giving the macula its yellowish color. In fact, the macula also is called the "macula lutea" (from the Latin macula, meaning "spot," and lutea, meaning "yellow").
Recent research has discovered a third xanthophyll in the macula. Called meso-zeaxanthin, this carotenoid is not found in food sources and appears to be created in the retina from ingested lutein.
Lutein and zeaxanthin appear to have important antioxidant functions in the body. Along with other natural antioxidants, including vitamin C, beta carotene and vitamin E, these xanthophylls guard the body from damaging effects of free radicals, which are unstable molecules that can destroy cells and play a role in many diseases.
In addition to important eye and vision benefits, lutein may help protect against atherosclerosis (buildup of fatty deposits in arteries), the disease that leads to most heart attacks.

Eye Benefits of Lutein and Zeaxanthin

It is believed that lutein, zeaxanthin and meso-zeaxanthin in the macula block blue light from reaching the underlying structures in the retina, thereby reducing the risk of light-induced oxidative damage that could lead to macular degeneration (AMD).

Unawareness of Eye Health Nutrients
In a 2011 survey of Americans aged 45-65, more than half the respondents said they take nutritional supplements to protect joints, bones or heart health. But fewer than a fifth said they take eye health supplements.
In addition, 66 percent were unaware of the key role that lutein plays in eye health.
For more results of the Bausch + Lomb-sponsored survey, click here for a brief slide show.

A number of studies have found that lutein and zeaxanthin either help prevent AMD or may slow progression of the disease:
  • Research published in Nutrition & Metabolism found that a nutritional supplement containing meso-zeaxanthin, lutein and zeaxanthin effectively increased the optical density of the macular pigment in eyes of the majority of human subjects. The macular pigment is believed to offer protection against the development of macular degeneration.
  • Studies published in American Journal of Epidemiology, Ophthalmology and Archives of Ophthalmology found higher levels of lutein and zeaxanthin in the diet are associated with a lower incidence of AMD.
  • Two studies published in Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science found that eyes with greater levels of macular pigments were less likely to have or develop macular degeneration.
  • In a research article published in Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics in August 2010, the study authors conclude that lutein, zeaxanthin and meso-zeaxanthin filter short-wavelength light and prevent or reduce the generation of free radicals in the retinal pigment epithelium and choroid. They also suggest that a mixture of these carotenoids are more effective than any one of the individual xanthophylls at the same total concentration.
(MY INPUT)

I take all three supplements at times from various health food outlets so I am NOT pushing any particular brand or store or outlet. I take Bilberry, Lutein and Astaxanthin every single day in addition to most days drinking 32 ounces of some combination of a green smoothie. lately the smoothies has consisted of 3 to 4 stalks of celery, 1 medium carrot, a handful of red grapes, and apple or 1/2 mango, usually some baby spinach or spring salad mix or kale, a teaspoon of Barley grass powder, two packets of stevia, 4 or 5 ice cubes and enough cold water added so it blends easily in my Vita Mixer.

I am a BIG believer in the PH Miracle For Diabetes line of thinking and research. One of the diabetics BIGGEST PROBLEMS (along with a host of other ailments and diseases) is INFLAMATION.

I believe one of the best ways to handle and combat inflammation is to keep your interstitial fluid which is the fluid which bathes all of your billions of cells slightly alkaline. Too much ACID causes inflammation. Eating a variety of fruits and vegetables along with supplements and especially GREEN SMOOTHIES go a LONG WAY to combating overall body inflammation.

Following is a LINK to more about inflammation and how to combat it:

EXCERPTS:

How a Detox Diet Can Drive Inflammation Out Of your Bod

We normally associate the word inflammation with pain, swelling and redness and joint stiffness but did you know that many of the common diseases that people suffer with these days are related to chronic inflammation?
Researchers have found that chronic diseases such as heart disease, stroke, some cancers, Alzheimer’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, eczema, psoriasis, asthma, diabetes and many others are related to underlying inflammation in the body. Even aging is due to an inflammatory process in the skin. So you are probably wondering what this has to do with a detox diet?
First let’s have a look at what exactly inflammation is.
Inflammation is a normal response of the body to fight an infection. For example if you get an infection your body produces a fever a part of the process to kill the bacteria or virus that is causing it. And inflammation is part of the healing process. If you have an injury your body produces inflammation as part of the process that repairs and heals it. We could not do without it
But in some cases a low grade inflammatory process is constantly switched on. When this happens you become more susceptible to disease and the aging process. You may have low grade inflammation for hears without knowing it because the body can control it to a certain extent for a while. Then one day you start to get niggling symptoms and realize that something is not right.

What causes chronic inflammation?
Many factors, including stress, emotions, diet and lifestyle, contribute to inflammation.
  • Stress causes an increased output of cortisol from the adrenal glands which fuels inflammation.
  • Lack of sleep places a stress on the body and an increase in cortisol
  • Too much fat, sugar, protein, processed and junk foods, sodas and caffeine
  • An imbalance of organisms in your gut causes your immune system to overreact.
  • Toxins from food, water, your environment and personal care products
  • Food sensitivity or intolerance and food allergies cause low grade inflammation
  • Leaky gut – an increase in the permeability of the intestinal lining can result in toxins leaking from the bowel resulting in inflammation.
  • Obesity – the fatty tissues of the body secrete hormones that regulate the immune system and inflammation, but in the case of an overweight individual this can become out of control.
  • Dehydration makes inflammation worse
You are probably beginning to see now how a detox diet can help drive inflammation out of your body. When you cleanse your bowel and body of toxins, heal a leaky gut, restore the balance of gut organisms, reduce stress and avoid foods that contribute to inflammation you dramatically reduce and prevent inflammation.
Inflammatory and anti-inflammatory foods
There has been a lot of research on which foods contribute to inflammation and which foods are anti-inflammatory. The food you eat has a direct impact on the inflammation in your body.
Inflammatory foods
  • Sugar, all types (white sugar, brown sugar, confectioners sugar, corn syrup, processed corn fructose, turbinado sugar, etc)
  • Processed (refined) foods including processed meats
  • Junk food & most fast food, fried food
  • Excess red meat and fatty meat
  • High saturated fat foods
  • Food additives
  • White bread
  • Ice Cream
  • Snack Foods
  • Oils such as vegetable and corn (unless cold pressed)
  • Hydrogenated, trans fats and heated polyunsaturated oils
  • Soda, caffeine and alcohol
Anti-inflammatory foods
  • Fresh whole fruits, vegetables
  • Dark green leafy vegetables
  • Bright multi-colored vegetables
  • Cold water low mercury oily fish
  • Green tea
  • Olive oil (good quality)
  • Lean poultry
  • Nuts, especially very fresh walnuts, legumes and seeds
  • Low glycemic load foods
  • Pure Water
  • Spices, especially Turmeric and Ginger

Ps 91:9-10

9 Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; 10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

Ps 103:1-5

1 Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. 2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: 3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; 4 Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; 5 Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's

Some Supplements To Consider

I have posted several of the supplements that I take previously however I think it is good to review them from time to time. Thought I would list some of the supplements I take that you might want to look into:

Pycogenol (Maritime Frech Pine Bark Extract) SEE LINK:

http://www.livestrong.com/article/443928-pycnogenol-for-diabetes/

EXCERPT:

Lower Blood Sugar

High levels of blood sugar are the benchmark indicator for diabetes. Investigators reporting in the March 2004 edition of "Diabetes Care" examined the ability of pycnogenol to lower blood sugar in patients with mild cases of Type 2 diabetes. Prompting the study, in part, were reports from patients supplementing pycnogenol that they had reduced need for insulin. The researchers found that supplementing between 50 and 200 milligrams of pycnogenol significantly reduced blood sugar levels but did not affect the levels of circulating insulin. There was also indication that the structural integrity of blood vessels improved from supplementation.

Vitamin D3 at HIGHER levels than previously recommended:

http://www.pamelaegan.com/articles/vitamind3/

EXCERPT:

FEBRUARY 01, 2008 – Hot off the Press, higher intakes of Vitamin D3 can help one reap even more health benefits than was previously known, according to newly published Risk Assessments.
Four nutrition experts, including two Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) scientists and two of the world’s pre-eminent vitamin D researchers, are urging the Food and Nutrition Board (FNB) to raise the vitamin D Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL) five-fold, based on a safety evaluation of the latest scientific research. This research shows that vitamin D is safe at intake levels much higher than its current UL.
The paper, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (AJCN) concludes the safety profile of vitamin d should safely permit raising the UL for vitamin D to 250ug (10,000IU) per day from the current UL of 50 ug (2,000IU) per day.

There has been an increased consumer interest in the nutrient following a number of recent studies showing benefits of vitamin D3 associated with levels beyond what is typically provided in a multivitamin and most fortified food.
Even the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently issued a proposed rule to allow the inclusion of vitamin D in approved calcium and osteoporosis health claims.
New data continues to emerge regarding the health benefits of vitamin D beyond its role in bone health. Vitamin D3 deficiency has been associated with Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Diabetes, Cancer, Obesity, neuro-degenerative diseases, osteoporosis, depression, as well as others.
B-Complex:
EXCERPT:
Diabetes Connection

People with both type 1andtype 2diabetes can be deficient of b complex vitamins due to a poor diet or the disease, which causes them to be glucose intolerance allowing their blood sugar levels to rise after eating. The shortages from this supplement can lead to nerve damage in the hands and feet.Research shows that some of the vitamins in this group that are normally reabsorbed in the blood after passing through the kidneys will go straight out in diabetic patients. Some scientific studies show that diabetes patients with type 1 and type 2 who add b-complex to their diet experience less numbness and tingling.

There have been some noted studies that suggest some patients will still developvascular problems even when their blood glucose levels are in good control. Realizing this, research suggests that vitamin B complex supplements could decrease vascular complications in diabetic patients. It has been suggested to take only one per day, every day to get the best results.
Calcium/Magnesium:
EXCERPT:
The Diabetes-Magnesium Connection
For our blood sugar processing to be normal and healthy, a proper balance of the the two key minerals, magnesium and calcium, must be maintained. Without magnesium, insulin cant do its job to open the cell pathways that allow glucose to enter. When this ratio of magnesium to calcium is disrupted due to magnesium deficiency and high levels of calcium in our diet, our cells become insulin resistant, a condition which leads to diabetes.
In her groundbreaking book, "The Magnesium Miracle", Dr Carolyn Dean, MD, states "If magnesium is in short supply, sugar stays in the blood stream, and as it becomes elevated, symptoms of diabetes appear."
It should be noted that diabetics not only need more magnesium to correct deficiencies that lead to insulin Resistance, but diabetics also tend to loose magnesium through the body's elimination pathways at a higher rate than non-diabetics, presenting a double burden.
In a 1995 article published in the journal Diabetes Care, Dr. Zachary T. Bloomgarden, MD and Endocrinologist, stated: "Studies have shown that 90 percent of individuals with type 2 diabetes have low levels of free intracellular red blood cell magnesium."
Metabolic Syndrome X
Metabolic Syndrome X, a condition which is growing in the US at an alarming rate, is characterized as a single person having multiple major risk factors for heart disease:
- High blood sugar/Insulin resistance
- High blood pressure
- Obesity
- High cholesterol
Dr. Lawrence M. Resnick, MD, a practicing physician, researcher and professor of medicine at Cornell University Medical College, spent many years researching the role that the magnesium-calcium balance plays in human health. Their studies concluded that as the magnesium levels within cells fall, the calcium levels rise. The resulting magnesium-calcium ratio imbalance effects cells in such a way as to bring on Metabolic Syndrome X.

Diet and Regular Carbonated Sodas Are HARMFUL

I know I sound like a broken record concerning getting OFF all carbonated sodas whether they are diet or regular. Here is why:

http://www.juicing-for-health.com/harmful-soft-drinks.html

EXCERPTS:

The lure of soft drinks
"Soft drinks" is a term used for beverages that don't contain alcohol ("hard" liquor). If you really know what the contents of soft drinks are, you would not think it is "soft". It is really "hard" on your health.
Soft drinks have become so much a part of modern living, especially in major cities around the world. It particularly appeals to the younger generation who drinks soft drinks in place of water.
Soft drinks advertisements target young people who are oblivious to the harm these drinks can do to their bodies. No wonder the people love drinking soft drinks too--they give the refreshing feeling and seem to quench thirsts on a blistering hot day. Vending machines are making the "killing" easier.
If you drink soft/carbonated drinks regularly, I beg you to please stop and read what is it that you are putting into your body. Understand what these soft drinks contain:
Sugar
A majority of soft drinks contain large amounts of refined sugar content of up to 15 teaspoons each in a 325 ml can. One can a day gives you more sugar than is necessary for your body.
Sugar erodes teeth, increases your risks of diabetes, heart disease, indigestion and skin problems. As sugar enters the bloodstream and increases the sugar level rapidly, it causes a dependency situation whereby the body craves for a constant flow of sugar to maintain its levels. This keeps you craving for more, creating a vicious cycle that gets you hooked.
Artificial Sweeteners
Soft drinks disguised as "diet soda" or "tonic water" contain calorie-reduced sweeteners such as aspartame, acesulfame-K, saccharin or sucralose.
  • Aspartame is 200 times sweeter than sugar, so very little is used to sweeten the soft drink. It does enhance the taste of the drink but it also cause numerous adverse side-effects. Common complaints include migraine, memory loss, emotional disorders, blurred vision, ringing in the ears, heart palpitations and shortness of breath.
  • Acesulfame-K (Ace-K) is 100-200 times sweeter than sugar, with a slight bitter after-taste. Initial tests have indicated that this substance may be carcinogenic. Even though thorough tests are still incomplete, there are reasons to be careful not to ingest this compound as tests on lab animals have shown rapid increase in cancerous tumors.
  • Saccharin is a non-nutritive sweetener which is 300 times sweeter than sugar. It has been proven to cause bladder cancer and is banned in Canada, New Zealand and several European countries. Saccharin is found to be present in Pepsi Diet, Diet Coke and Diet Sarsi.

Caffeine
Caffeine is an addictive drug that enhances the soda flavor. It artificially stimulates the nervous system and increases the heart rate. When consumed, it may temporarily arouse the intellect and diminish fatigue.
Over-stimulation depletes the body of vital energy as it struggles to deal with the toxin that enters the bloodstream. Excessive caffeine consumption is linked to cancers of the bladder and stomach, raised blood pressure and aggravating diabetes symptoms. Worst of all, it may even contribute to birth defects in babies.
Drinking soft drinks after a physical workout can cause calcium and potassium loss which in turn can cause sore muscles and delayed recovery time after exercise.
Acids
Most soft drinks contain acids such as citric, phosphoric and malic or tartaric acids. These acids are what give the drink the refreshing "bite" or "sting" and at the same time preserving the "quality" and sweetness of the drink.
A study was done where extracted human teeth were placed in cola drinks. Within two days, the teeth became very soft and the enamel surface lost much of its calcium.
If you think you would brush your teeth after drinking soft drinks, hear this: Brushing your teeth after drinking an acidic soft drink can increase the damage to your tooth enamel, and dissolving down the gum line.
Many diseases thrive in an acidic environment. For example, the phosphoric acid upsets the body's calcium-phosphorus ratio and dissolves calcium rapidly, resulting in premature osteoporosis. This same acid burns the human insides.
Consider this, phosphoric acid is used for removing rust from chrome and for cleaning automobile battery connectors. (Do a search on Google if you don't believe me!) Just imagine what horrendous things these acids are doing to your body, and I'm not even half way done telling yet.

An acidic blood condition weakens the immune system, causes inflammation, headaches, aggravates diabetes and many other diseases. Some cells die in this acidic condition, but some cells actually try to adapt to survive by becoming abnormal malignant cells.

Research has shown that in order to neutralize
a glass of cola, you would have to drink
32 glasses of high pH alkaline water.

Here's a list of pH value in soft drinks, to show you how alarmingly acidic these beverages are. Human blood has a pH value ranging between 7.3 and 7.45. Anything under a pH of 5.5 can have a terribly adverse effect on the body.
Carbon dioxide
Carbonated drinks are made by injecting carbon dioxide into the water under pressure. The more carbon dioxide injected, the lower the pH, the more acidic it gets, the more fizzy it is.
We all know that carbon dioxide is a waste product exhaled by human. We don't need carbon dioxide, so why are we taking it by drinking soft drinks? Too much carbon dioxide kills healthy cells. Dead cells cause an acidic environment. As mentioned above, in an acidic environment, some cells may survive by becoming abnormal malignant cells.
Preservatives
Preservatives are added into soft drinks to prevent spoilage, and to prolong shelf life. Storage conditions and time can affect the taste and flavor, and these preservatives help to preserve that.
The labels may list these as "permitted preservatives" but the exceeded amount can cause untold number of health problems.
  • Sodium benzoate (a.k.a. benzoic acid) is present in most soft drinks. This chemical is known to cause asthma, rashes and hyperactivity.

  • Sulphur dioxide is also used in some soft drinks to preserve the color of say, carbonated lemon juice from turning brown. This chemical is used for industrial bleaching. It is so toxic that repeated exposures to it can cause fainting spells, skin eruptions, swelling, tightening of the chest, shock, coma and even death.
Artificial flavorings and colorings
Artificial flavorings are commonly used in making soft drinks to give each flavor its distinctive taste. These have adverse effect on hyperactive children and must be eliminated from their diet.
Tartrazine is an orange-yellowish drink coloring that is banned in Norway and Finland. It can cause allergic reactions like skin rashes, swelling, excessive mucus and bloodshot eyes.
Carmoisine is a reddish drink coloring that is banned in the US and Canada. It can cause allergic reactions, food poisoning and even cancer.

Brilliant Blue is another cancer-causing agent that is now banned in many developed countries. Sadly, it is still being used in my country to produce soft drinks. This chemical can cause chromosomal damage and allergic reactions.

Sodium
Most soft drinks contain some inorganic sodium. Sodium is used as an emulsifying, stabilizing and thickening agent to ensure that the contents of the drinks are kept evenly distributed. Excessive consumption of inorganic sodium thickens and stiffens arteries, leading to stroke, cardiac failure, high blood pressure and many other diseases.
What do we do?
Need I say more? Doing this research has given me a major jolt. It is sad that the government allows the manufacture of these killer drinks. It is even sadder that many people I know still drink soft drinks like water, thinking that "they need it" to keep them awake, sigh.
Do yourself and me a huge favor--please cut down or stop drinking any form of soft/carbonated/soda drinks. Instead, turn to healthy fresh fruit and vegetable juices if you value your health. Start today, it is not too late. You can still reverse the damages already done to your body, by taking the first step to learn what is beneficial for you. Choose to live healthy.
(MY INPUT)
I know, I know that a lot of you already know that, but your HOOKED on them. Try to wean yourself off by promising yourself you will go ONE WEEK..........just 7 days with no sodas. The first day is hard, the second just as bad, by the third day you are thinking, "Hey, I can do this", and by the 7th day you have replaced a BAD HABIT with a good one. Drinking MORE water, and use the money you will save from vending machines to purchase a reconditioned Vita Mixer or a NINJA MAX and start turning celery, cucumbers, kale, apples, red grapes and perhaps a mango into green smoothies to counteract all that acid you have been drinking for so long.
You will will so much better after 30 days of NO sodas and you will be happy about the weight loss and your reduced A1C next time you visit your doctor.
PLEASE TRY IT, then write back to me.

Green Smoothies

The book on the PH Miracle for Diabetes recommends at least 4 liters of green drink every day. The best way to get that is to liquefy green veggies such as cucumber, spinach, kale, green spring mix salad greens, celery etc. mixed with a mango, apple, carrot, avocado etc. / Add enough water and a few ice cubes to liquefy the mixture so you can drink it.

I PREFER the Vita Mixer which makes making the green alkaline mixture easy.

PH Miracle book (page 68 and 69) recommends 1 litre of green drink for every 30 pounds of body weight. That means if you weigh 260 pounds, you are looking at around 8 or 9 liters of green smoothie a day. If you don't own a Vita Mixer or Ninja Max system or something similar, you can accomplish a lot by mixing All Day Energy Greens or one of the other barley grass combination powders into a glass of cold water several times a day.

JUST AS IMPORTANT is to get off any and all diet or regular colas and carbonated soda. The PH of a diet coke or Pepsi is around 2 and drives your body into an acid state and really messes up your interstitial fluid which s the fluid that bathes your billions of cells.

You MUST get some aerobic exercise in every day and I recommend lots of walking for starters. You also need some weight resistance type of exercise like push ups for core strength.

10 Steps To A Cure (From The PH Miracle For Diabetes

I am going to go back and study from and Read again the PH Miracle For Diabetes by Robert O. Young PhD, and Shelly Redford Young.

Here is an excerpt from the book on page 56:

10 steps to a cure:

See your doctor for a thorough physical
Check your sugar (blood glucose) levels daily
Go on a fourteen day liquid feast
Eat an Alkaline diet
Begin a program of Nutritional supplements
Drink your greens
Exercise (appropriately every day)
Manage your stress levels
Monitor your progress
Pursue a positive attitude

I am drinking at least two large glasses of green smoothies every day. A typical smoothie would consist of 3 to 4 stalks of celery including the leaves, 1/2 cucumber, one medium apple, 1 carrot, 1/2 cup of red grapes, 5 ice cubes, enough water to make the mixture smooth and two stevia packets.

Sometimes I vary this with a handful of baby spinach, 1/2 mango, spring salad mix or romaine lettuce etc. - experiment with it.

I also continue to do my push ups which I started while doing while on our last ministry trip in Ireland. I did 1600 push ups while there in a little over a month. I am now doing on average 100 a day and an occasional 200 in one day. It has done wonders for my upper body strength and core strength. I continue to walk a lot for aerobic activity. I am also adding in weight resistance exercises with 20 pound dumb bells and some knee to chest abdominal routines. I find it easier as time goes by and I am now trying to do all 100 push ups in a half hour to 45 min time period as opposed to stretching them out through the day.

I am in hopes that my testosterone levels will have rebounded some since the negative effects I had for the short time I was on ANDROGEL therapy. My blood pressure during my recent Joslin Clinic checkup was 110/64 which is a long ways from the 201/95 average I experienced on Androgel. I am also having my iodine levels rechecked in the next couple of weeks along with a full blown blood lipid profile.

Next blog post we will revisit supplements you should consider.

I ALMOST FORGOT - GET OFF THE CARBONATED SODAS, diet or otherwise including Coke, Pepsi, root beer, Dr. Pepper all of them. They have a PH factor of about (2) and drive your system crazy trying to get back to an alkaline state for your interstitial fluid. Same applies for RED BULL and any other sugar laden, acid causing drink.

QUIT killing yourself FIRST, then allow your body to heal itself by dramatically increasing your greens intake BOTH by eating large raw salads and drinking green smoothies.

Byetta and Junuvia Linked To PANCREATIC CANCER

TV ads now appearing if you think you may have pancreatic cancer from taking the diabetic drugs BYETTA and JUNUVIA to contact various law firms.  BYETTA is also linked to possible thyroid cancer.  Last I looked pancreatic cancer is probably one of the worst forms of cancer. IF you have previously taken or are currently taking either of these two drugs for your diabetes, I would strongly suggest you get an appointment with your doctor and work out a plan to get off both of these prescriptions.

    Januvia Side Effects: Final Thoughts

You may experience some or none of the side effects of Januvia explained above. Unfortunately, there is no way for your healthcare provider to know beforehand if you will have side effects from a medicine that you have never tried.
Therefore, make sure to let your healthcare provider know if you develop any side effects while taking Januvia. Also, let your healthcare provider know if you develop something that "just does not seem right." While it may not be a Januvia side effect, your healthcare provider should be able to diagnose and treat the

A recent preliminary study suggests that people taking the prescription drugs Januvia (sitagilptin) or Byetta (exenatide) to treat Type 2 diabetes may be at an increased risk of developing pancreatitis as well as pancreatic cancer.
In addition, the study discovered that Byetta could potentially increase risk of developing thyroid cancer. The researchers commented noted that the results weren’t conclusive and that further investigation would be necessary before a definite link could be identified.
“We have raised concern that there may be a link, but we haven’t confirmed it,” says Dr. Peter Butler, lead researcher on the project and the director of the Larry L. Hillblom Islet Research Center at the University of California in Los Angeles. “We need to do more work to figure out whether this is real or not,” continued Dr. Butler.

Byetta and Januvia are prescribed to Type 2 diabetics to help keep blood glucose levels in a healthy range. The medications encourage the production of a hormone called glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1).

(MY INPUT INSERT) Don't be someone's guinea pig or experiment.

Although Januvia and Byetta, both relatively new injectable drugs that treat Type 2 diabetes, have some benefits over older medications, Dr. Butler warns that every new medication requires thorough research to determine any complications that could arise from its use. “When new drugs come out, the long-term side effects of these drugs are not well understood,” said Dr. Butler.
Dr. Butler’s team used data from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s database of adverse events in patients taking Byetta and Januvia between 2004 and 2009. Any time a patient experiences an adverse event, it is reported by the patient’s physician and recorded in the database.
Dr. Butler’s team found that patients who were being treated with Byetta and Januvia displayed six times more reported cases of pancreatitis. Those taking Byetta showed a 2.9-fold increase in pancreatic cancer while those taking Januvia showed a 2.7-fold increase in pancreatic cancer. The researchers also noted that there was an increase in reported cases of thyroid cancer among patients prescribed Byetta.
However, Dr. Butler stated that the data does not necessarily point to an increase in those complications among patients taking the medications but could be a result of an increase in the number of doctors actually reporting those adverse events.
“It is important to avoid alarmism and have people stop medicines that they may be benefiting from when the risk is not yet defined,” said Dr. Butler. “If the drug and you are working well together, I wouldn’t say there is any reason to stop the drug, based on the evidence we have right now,” he said. “But if you have any concern you should talk to your doctor about it.” Butler also noted that losing weight is the greatest deterrent to pancreatic cancer in patients with Type 2 diabetes.
Dr. Mary Ann Banerji, director of the Diabetes Treatment Center at SUNY Health Science Center Brooklyn, New York City, agrees with Dr. Butler, stating that the data “should not be blown out of proportion.”
Dr. Banerji does not prescribe Byetta or Januvia to patients with a family history of thyroid cancer or pancreatitis, but other drugs such as metformin and insulin come with their own risks. “You prescribe them on an individual basis, because, in the end, all of medicine is individual,” said Dr. Banerji. “We should use these drugs judiciously along with metformin.

    What about Metformin side effects?
    http://allsideeffects.net/metformin-side-effects/

    (EXCERPTS)

    Side effects

Like any medicine, Metformin has side effects. Some of them are quite common (e.g. diarrhea, nausea and vomiting) and some occur rarer (e.g. gas, weakness, indigestion, abdominal (or stomach) discomfort).
According to many clinical studies, 1 to 5% of patients experience side effects such as:
    • Taste changes (metallic taste in the mouth)
    • Abnormal stools
    • Muscle pain
    • Lightheadedness or dizziness
    • Difficulty breathing
    • Nail problems
    • Loss of appetite
    • Increased sweating
    • Flu-like symptoms, such as fever, muscle pain, chills, and weakness
    • Flushing(a reddening of the skin, especially in the face)
    • Feelings of a forcefully or rapidly beating heart (heart palpitations)
    • Asthenia
    • Unusual tiredness or weakness
    • General feeling of being unwell
    • Increased homocysteine levels
    • Malabsorption of vitamin B12 that can lead to megaloblastic anemia
    • Unusual drowsiness
    increased lactic acid production)
Hypoglycemia develops when your blood sugar level drops too low to meet your needs. It can develop very quickly. Some of the symptoms of low blood sugar: sweating, shakiness, extreme hunger, dizziness, cold sweats, blurry vision, changes in behavior (such as irritability), loss of coordination, speaking difficulty, and seizures. If you do not quickly eat hard candy, drink juice, or ingest something with sugar in it, more severe symptoms may appear. These include sudden confusion and you may even faint.
The second possible serious side effect is hyperglycemia – a condition that can occur when your blood sugar level rises too high. In this case, you may experience increased hunger, very dry mouth, extreme thirst, increased urination, blurred vision, fatigue, shortness of breath, nausea or vomiting. If you do not treat this dangerous condition quickly, your body may dive into a condition known as diabetic ketoacidosis and you might start finding it very hard to breathe and even faint after a few moments.
The third possible and the most dangerous side effect is lactic acidosis. Signs of lactic acidosis include feeling tired or weak, muscle pain, breathing difficulty, abdominal pain (or stomach pain), feeling cold, cold or blue hands and feet, dizziness or lightheadedness, slow or irregular heartbeat, persistent nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, shortness of breath, an enlarged or tender liver, weight loss. This complication is very rare. Lactic acidosis does not develop in healthy people because their body can deal with lactic acid excess. Most of these cases seem to be related to comorbid conditions. Because Metformin decreases liver uptake of lactate, any condition that may precipitate lactic acidosis is a contraindication to the use of this drug. Alcoholism, heart failure, respiratory disease (due to inadequate oxygenation of tissues) and kidney disease are the common causes of increased lactic acid production.
This medicine can also cause such allergic reactions as:
    • an unexplained skin rash
    • itching
    • hives
    • wheezing or trouble breathing
    • unexplained swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue
    • tightness in the chest

    Serious Side Effects of Glipizide

Serious side effects of glipizide, while occurring infrequently, are potentially serious and should be reported to your health care provider right away. These include but are not limited to:
    • Symptoms of high blood sugar, such as:
      • Increased hunger
      • Increased thirst
      • Increased urination
      • Blurred vision
      • Fatigue
      • Shortness of breath
      • Nausea or vomiting
    • Symptoms of low blood sugar, such as:
      • Sweating
      • Shakiness
      • Extreme hunger
      • Dizziness
      • Cold sweats
      • Blurry vision
      • Changes in behavior, such as irritability
      • Loss of coordination
      • Difficulty speaking
      • Confusion
      • Seizures
    • Signs of liver damage, such as:
      • Yellow skin or eyes (jaundice)
      • Unusually dark urine
      • Upper-right abdominal pain (stomach pain)
      • Easy bruising or bleeding
    • Signs of an allergic reaction, such as:
      • An unexplained skin rash
      • Itching
      • Hives
      • Wheezing or difficulty breathing
      • Unexplained swelling
    • Fever, chills, or sore throat
    • Chest pain
    • Shortness of breath
    • Fast heartbeat or heart palpitations.
When I was in high school (a long time ago), I remember a teacher who was always fond of saying, "A word to the wise should be sufficient" and also "Give advice sparingly as the fools won't heed it and the wise don't need it".

I am telling you that you need to take responsibility for your own health and especially for doing your own homework and study on side effects of any and all medicines you are taking. Many times your doctor or pharmacy will tell you the most common side effects and that is it. YOU NEED to search for yourself ALL OF THE SIDE EFFECTS and make a list of them somewhere you can refer to from time to time. Otherwise, how are you going to know where that unexplainable rash came from? or you sudden diarrhea problem, or nausea, or blurry vision etc.

I am not telling you to play doctor however I am telling you to study and keep track of any sudden changes and go over them immediately with your diabetes doctor. You have to get involved in your own treatment.

    EXCERPTS:

It Starts with A Shift of Paradigm...

    _________________________________________________________

Misconception No. 1: Sugar Causes Diabetes

If you are a diabetic patient, your body has a problem regulating the sugar level in your blood. Just a single-course high carbohydrate meal or a glass of sweet juice will cause a definite surge in your blood glucose levels - which, in turn, will require a much longer time to stabilize and return to normal levels.
You cannot put the blame on sugar, just like you cannot blame the cars (glucose) that stuck in line at a malfunctioning autopay gate (glucose channel). It isn't the fault of the cars that has caused the failure of the gate to allow them to pass through. It is the same inside your body - it's not the glucose that causes the inability of your body to utilize the insulin floating in the bloodstream. Glucose is a victim, not the culprit.

Misconception No. 2: Diabetes Is Caused by Lack of Insulin

Yes and No. It is only true for Type 1 Diabetes (accounts for 5 - 10 % of diabetes cases), but it is not the primary cause of Type 2 Diabetes, which affects a much larger subset of the adult population.
Typically, for Type 2 Diabetes patients, their insulin production level is normal during the early stage of the onset of the disease (when they were first diagnosed as having hyperglycemia). It is only at the later (or near-end) stage that their pancreas become weak - thus decreasing the production of insulin.
What's Wrong With Conventional Medical Treatments?
The sad thing is that most of the conventional medical treatments for diabetes are centered around these 2 Misconceptions. Doctors will advise all diabetes patients to minimize their sugar and carbohydrate intake, some even to the extend of total abstinence from all glucose producing foods. This will only put the patients in a state of constant fatigue and tiredness because there is no input of energy source to the body.
Eventually, it will evolve to a stage where the patient loses weight drastically within a very short period of time. This is a sign that the body is forced to 'burn' itself away to "squeeze" out whatever source of energy (fat & muscle protein) that is stored in the body. This quick lost of body fat will suddenly release the toxics (that was hidden or 'wrapped' by the fat over the years) into the bloodstream and kickstart a series of diabetes related health complications.
Pumping in more and more insulin is just a temporary solution. As the diabetic condition worsens, one will need to increase the dosage as well as the frequency of the insulin injections.
In order to cure your Type 2 Diabetes (Thus far, there is no cure for Type 1), you will need to understand the primary root of the disease, which is Insulin Resistance. You have to understand and believe that Insulin Resistance is Reversible before any solution can be recommended to you.

You Don't Need Medication, What You Really Need Is...

    Re - Education

What is The Actual Root Cause of Insulin Resistance? How to Reverse It?

Before discussing what causes Insulin Resistance, I would like you to imagine an aquarium that is filled with hundreds of fishes. If, one day most of the fish in the tank were behaving abnormally and seemed sick. What would be the most likely cause that comes to mind? The water! There must be something wrong with the environment that the fish are living in.
One hundred trillion of our body cells are like fish living in a sea of body fluid called Interstitial Fluid. Interstitial fluid is the medium where the exchange of nutrients and/or toxic waste between cells and blood happens. A bad Internal Environment will only cultivate unhealthy and crooked cells - eventually leading to Insulin Resistance.
The 2 major destructive forces within a 'polluted' internal environment are:
    1. Acidic Corrosion
    2. Free Radical Oxidation
Below is the illustration of what happens to your body cells when exposed to an acidic and oxidative environment for a long period of time.
    insulin resistance

What Creates An Acidic and Oxidative Internal Body Environment?

Most Type 2 Diabetes patients have had a very imbalanced diet since they were young - at least 80% of their daily diet consisting of acidic food. If you want to know the complete list acidic food - google it. Generally, acidic foods are foods that are high in protein and calories. Protein will be broken down to amino acids after digestion and the metabolic process of handling the excess calories produces organic acids in our body.
High concentration of acidic compounds floating around the interstitial fluid will create a lot of positively charged hydrogen ions which tend to rob away electrons (oxidation) from other elements and create free radicals that attack the cell membrane. And this oxidation process is a chain reaction that consists of multiple free radical attacks which are very destructive to the cell membrane.
    Why Ionized Alkaline Water?
The reason I'm sharing all this information here is because I have seen many cases where diabetes patients have successfully reverse their Insulin Resistance problem after they began drinking Ionized Alkaline Water. The reason I have had the opportunity to observe this phenomenon is because I have been in the Alkaline Water Ionizer business for more than 7 years and have had significant positive feedback from my clients.
I have read countless books about different types of water processing technologies and natural health care. The consistent positive feedback from water ionizer users has only served to validate my personal research findings. As I hear more and more testimonials, it motivates me to do more study about the diseases and unveil the mystery of how Ionized Alkaline Water helps to reverse and cure the diseases.
One 'correct' common sense observation often leads to the discovery of another! I strongly believe that this water can kick start a health revolution. Now I'm a full time writer and health consultant. I'm a scientific person and I'm going to explain the benefits of Ionized Alkaline Water from a scientific perspective, sans the emotional hype of an endless stream of testimonials. It's just pure simple science...

The 5 Unique Characteristics of Ionized Alkaline Water

    • High Alkalinity - Neutralize or Detoxify The Acidity In The Body
    • High Anti-oxidant Power - Combat Free Radical Oxidation
    • Micro Cluster - High Penetration Power, Easy for Absorption
    • Oil Solubility - Strong Emulsification Effect, Fat/Cholesterol Reduction
    • Active Neutralization - Actively Search For Acid For Neutralization
After a few years of reading and talking to many diabetic patients, I have successfully compiled the following book specifically on Ionized Alkaline Water and Type 2 Diabetes.
    (MY INPUT)
Again I have NO product to sell and I have not personally written any books and i do not have any formal medical training. I LIKE this site and am going to look further into the ionized water concept.
