A More Excellent Way by Henry W. Wright

I have had a book for use as a reference guide for some time now and thought I would share it with you. It is a book written by  Senior Pastor Henry Wright, of the Pleasant Valley Church in Thomaston, Georgia. He has done seminars worldwide across broad denominational lines for a number of years. being recognized for his understanding of disease from a spiritual perspective. He is a frequent guest on many well known television shows and radio programs and contributes as a feature writer for several magazines.

The back page of the book asks you to read inside to discover:

  • Why mankind has disease
  • Spiritual roots of disease
  • Blocks to healing
  • Disease prevention
  • Many diseases discussed
  • Spiritual pathways to wholeness and health

He refers to Type II diabetes as an "autoimmune disease". Does that have any basis in fact?
YES, it does and you can pull up several websites indicating that it is in fact an autoimmune disease.

Case in point:     /         Link to Autoimmune Disease

Here is an excerpt from just one:

The article by C. T. De Souza et al. (1) in this issue supports the conclusion that type II diabetes (DMII) is an autoimmune-inflammatory disease. It raises the possibility that DMII and its complications result from pathological expression of the innate immune system in nonimmune hypothalamic cells, as well as visceral adipocytes, ß-cells of the pancreas, and vascular endothelium.
Pastor Wright believes that all autoimmune diseases have a spiritual root of self-hatred, self-bitterness, and guilt. Diabetes he feels can be defeated. The same would apply to other autoimmune diseases such as Lupus, Chron's, rheumatoid arthritis and MS just to name a few.

Pastor Wright believes as I do, that "Greater is he that is in you (Christ Jesus), than he that is in the world (Satan)" I John 4:4

He indicates that autoimmune diseases are primarily a self-hatred disease with a fear-anxiety -stress rider attached to them. He further states that most autoimmune diseases are primarily the result of an Unloving spirit producing feelings of not being loved, not being accepted, self-rejection, self-hatred, and self bitterness coupled with guilt. Even the medical community now associates autoimmune diseases with fear, anxiety, and stress.

Bold statements to be sure, however his ministry has been responsible for hundreds if not thousands of personal healing's of people previously afflicted with autoimmune diseases.

He states on page 13, "The beginning of all healing of spiritually rooted diseases begins when you make your peace with God, and accept His love one and for all, accepting yourself and accepting others.

There are many key biblical scriptures from God's word quoted in his book, among them this one from Matthew 22:37-30 "Jesus said unto him, Thous shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it. Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these TWO commandments hang all the law and the prophets"

It follows that IF you do NOT love yourself, you cannot love your neighbor. You may pretend you do, however if you do not love yourself, then you cannot love your neighbor, because you are Unable to receive their love.

I cannot possibly quote all the scriptures and insight that pastor Wright has not only on autoimmune diseases, but on disease in general.

From my own perspective, one might think, "What is up with that line of thinking?" I certainly love myself and that can't possibly have anything to do with diabetes. I personally feel, that all diseases have a physical and a spiritual side. As an example if you have your fasting blood glucose taken on (2) alternate days and the result is over 126, you will likely be diagnosed as a border line diabetic requiring further testing. Then it will likely be explained to you the process by which your physical body handles glucose and how your cells are insulin resistant etc. That is the PHYSICAL side of your diabetes. Then there is the spiritual dimension, which is what Pastor Wright's ministry deals with.

There are 115 pages of testimonies in the back of his book  You can also visit their website at:

If you feel you cannot forgive yourself for something that you said or did, or failed to do which hurt someone else, or that you will never be able to forgive someone else for some harm you feel was inflicted on you, then you may want to contact Pleasant Valley Church.  They have counselor's there that will pray for you, counsel you and send you materials that will help you. I would recommend that you also contact your own Parish priest if you are Catholic and go through the sacrament of confession, or meet with your own Pastor at your local church.

If there is a chance that your Unforgiveness of your own self or others, or bitterness, hatred, jealousy etc. is in any way contributing to your diabetes, I would encourage you to seek counsel and get to the root of that matter, so you can be set free from it.

John 10:10 (King James Version)

10The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

"For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God." (1 Peter 3:18a)
"In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace." (Ephesians 1:7)
