Lessons Learned Regarding Previous Post (Get Second Opinion)!

One of the things that in my case was reinforced in my mind, is BEFORE having surgery done get a second opinion to be sure. In my case and with a history of my wife and other prayer partners giving me "Words of knowledge and Words of wisdom" from the Lord to confirm actions I should take or not take regarding my health, the outcome was in my favor.

For readers and followers of my blog, you can look at the listing of my many blog posts and find dozens of posts regarding the "Unified theory of heart disease" (vs.) the medical professions "Blood lipid theory of heart disease". The story of Dr. Linus Pauling and Dr. Matthias Rath is a fascinating one especially their work in reversing heart disease and clogged arteries with huge doses of Vitamin C, L-Lysine, L-Proline and other nutrients.

I have learned over time that the medical profession for the most part is tied deeply with the pharmaceutical industry and the first line of defense for many doctors to to simply prescribe a prescription drug or several drugs.

Look at some figures:

In 2014 American's filled 4.3 billion prescriptions and spent $374 billion dollars doing so which was UP 13% over the previous year!

Think about that for a minute. Ask yourself a question. Is heart disease being cured and other diseases being eradicated  by filling all the prescriptions. I think not.

The American diet has not improved and the junk food isles of grocery stores constantly are getting bigger. I see on average more over weight people that I ever remember growing up.

When I grew up, the family doctor sat down and interviewed his patients. He or she wanted to know what brought them in to the office. They would ask about your diet and what you ate for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They wanted to know if you drank alcohol or smoked or chewed tobacco etc.

They would ask about your exercise habits etc.

More and more it seems to me the first line of defense is to put you on a statin drug, a blood thinner and/or baby aspirin etc.

I am fond of the old saying, "You are what you eat". What happened to changing your diet, going on an exercise routine, standing on the scale every morning to find out where you are at.

I am of the opinion that I do not have a statin drug deficiency. In other words I view drugs in general as foreign substances in my digestive tract. They are NOT FOOD and are not digested as food. They work primarily by interfering with bodily functions and not by replacing needed nutrients.

In the process they cause lots of side effects and misery and in many cases drug interactions that are not healthy. If you have more than one doctor or specialist, you need to spend time researching interactions and side effects of the drugs you are on and make sure your different doctors are co-ordinating what they prescribe with drugs you are already on to avoid interactions which sometimes can be fatal.

Don't get me wrong, as I am NOT saying prescription drugs have no place at all in your life. It is just that I feel they are the first line of defense and an auto response of sorts for many doctors today. You have to do some homework and some study on your own. You not only need to read and understand the side effects but also the cautions of what other drugs might dramatically increase your risk of being harmed or might even prove fatal.

It will teach you how to eat right and change your life for the better and very likely allow you to wean yourself off some or all of your drugs over time. It can add years to your life and LIFE to your years.

Recent Lab tests, X-rays, and Ultra Sound Results and Misdiagnosis

Good afternoon blog readers! I have not had any new posts in a while and thought I would do a revealing post as to why.

Approximately two and one half months ago, I started having some bouts of in-explainable severe vertigo and nausea. I am talking about three of everything in my vision spinning counter clockwise and unable to tell if I was standing, laying down, upside down etc.

At first it would come and go and then got more frequent and unpredictable to the point I was useless and bewildered. I went to a local medical center and after having several tests run, they determined that I had some blockage in the Sub-Clavian arteries in my neck and if the dizzyness came back, I should go to a hospital emergency room ASAP.

A couple of days later, I had another severe bout of vertigo and ended up in a local emergency room for 5 hours. I had blood drawn, more ultra-sound and several other tests run. The conclusion was that I had 70-90% blockage in my left sub-clavian artery and 50% plus in my right sub-clavian artery. I was given a Stat Urgent send off to see a cardiologist and he in turn put me in front of a vascular surgeon a couple of weeks later. I was told that I was in danger of a stoke and to take it easy.

The cardiologist put me on a blood thinner and baby aspirin along with 40 mg of Crestor. In other words I immediately got put on 2 prescription drugs and baby aspirin. I have been on lower dose statin drugs before and could never tolerate them ending up with muscle aches and joint pains etc.

I have to mention that the 40mg of Crestor came out to $118.00 a pop to fill since Crestor name brand was what was prescribed. To add insult to injury a low dose BP med I have been on for years (Felodipine) was changed to a tier 3 drug and instead of costing $6 a refill went to $89 per refill.

I left there bewildered and thinking that I was going to need surgery and started reading everything I could find on sub-clavian artery surgery and stents (vs.) cutting the artery out and replacing part of it etc. etc.

I have mentioned before that my wife and I do ministry work in Ireland and have for years. The day before my scheduled vascular surgeon appt, I received a Word of Knowledge, Word of Prophecy from one of our prayer partners in Ireland by email.

She indicated she had been praying for me and that I was to read chapter 37 of Isaiah (regarding the Assyrian King Sennacherib attacking different groups and his messenger being sent to see Hezekiah leader of the Jews to let him know he should surrender otherwise be attacked by the Assyrian army the next day. He told the messenger that God would protect them from the Assyrians. The messenger replied, "You mean like he protected all the other people we have already conquered?".

Hezekiah responded, "NO, their God's were made of wood and stone but we SERVE the one true God and he will protect us".

The Messenger said, OK, "You have had your chance to surrender".

That night the Angel of the Lord went to the Assyrian camp and slew 185,000 Assyrian soldiers. The Assyrian king fled or as we said as a Kid, "He exited stage left in a hurry".

That was very powerful to me and I cried when I read the chapter. Our prayer partner also told me that God strongly spoke to her that,  "I was to REBUKE whatever the doctors had told me THUS FAR.

My heart jumped in my chest that God would have a very powerful message like that sent to me and I met with the vascular surgeon the next day and his expert opinion after examining all the tests was that the diagnosis I was given was totally 100% wrong. My right sub-clavian artery is 20% blocked at worst and the left artery was 40-50% at worst near my collar bone and the rest was 0-20% which did not pose a threat. In addition he told me that the chance of having a stroke from a sub-clavian artery is statistically ZERO.

THANK YOU LORD FOR YOUR MERCY AND YOUR WORD'S OF WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE.

Now what?

I Received another word of knowledge from another prayer partner in Ireland the day before my ENT appointment. The word given was, "That I would being to rapidly improve physically and be restored quickly"

The dizzyness, vertigo problem had not yet been solved except the surgeon told me to see an ENT (Ear, nose, throat specialist) as he felt if might be an inner ear positional problem and had nothing to do with my heart or arteries at all.

I went to see a local ENT who put me on a diuretic and mclizine as needed for vertigo. From my first day on the diuretic, my problem with vertigo stopped  It was diagnosed as Menieres syndrome or disease). Turns out I have some excess water in my right ear cochlear bone which was the source of my trouble.

SINCE the misdiagnosis, I now replaced the Felodipine and the Crestor with two lower dose generic drugs and am back to feeling great again. It didn't hurt my feelings that 2 of the meds which were $207 per refill are now generic and a lower dose and only $6 for 90 day supply.

Isn't God Great?

Spinal Stenosis Summary Based on A Lot of Reading

I thought I would do a summary for reference on natural cures or at least a lessening of painful side effects and restriction of mobility from trying some natural products to actually REVERSE or reverse to a greater or lesser degree the detrimental effects of spinal stenosis.

The following products listed have brought great relief and in some cases cured spinal stenosis:

6/ Lecithin / proven very helpful in dissolving into certain fats that help rebuild your nerve axion fiber and sheath in damaged nerves. Take 2 or 3 times a day - available from Puritan pride, Vita Cost, Swanson and numerous other outlets.

7) Drastically LOWER or better yet STOP your SUGAR intake. You MUST become a label reader and you will discover how much hidden sugar is in most of the foods you eat. Any and all carbonated colas whether diet or not contain sugar and/or aspartame both of which will destroy your body over time. The crunchie/munchie isle of your grocery store is a death trap full of empty high calorie foods that are full of additives, chemicals, food dyes with little or NO nutritional value and either high in empty carb calories, sugar or aspartame or other sugar replacement products.

8) You might want to look at a supplement containing Mung Bean Extract and Green Tea. Here is one from Swanson Vitamins. It is actually produced by the folks at Life Extension and it is item LE258 called Cykotine Suppress with EGCG and at the time of this post it lists for $22.50

IN CLOSING, I would remind you that I am NOT a doctor, or chiropractor, or certified nutritional expert and I do NOT have any formal training or schooling or any medical degrees. I am just a guy with type 2 diabetes and currently diagnosed with beginning stages of spinal stenosis.

Follow Up On Last Post Regarding Arm & Hammer Baking Soda Uses

As a follow up on my last post regarding spinal stenosis, here is some addition info on the apparent safety and effectiveness of Arm & Hammer baking soda.

It is a very useful addition to your diet to help alkalize your PH and possibly prevent colds, flu etc. As mentioned in my last post and several other posts on my BLOG on the evils of carbonated colas whether diet or not, drinking diet or regular coke, pepsi and other highly advertised drinks can affect the PH of your interstitial fluid and set your system up for ailments of all kinds.

The mixing of a teaspoon of baking SODA in water along with a taplespoon of Braggs or other NATURAL  apple cider vinegar with the MOTHER in it 2X a day can go a long way to help bring your PH to slightly alkaline (vs.) acid.

The link above also mentions colds, and flu and a host of other remedies attached to baking soda.

AS in all things 'MODERATION IS THE KEY". Please do not think if a little is good for you, then a LOT is even better. A teaspoon of Arm & Hammer Baking soda along with a tablespoon of natural Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar two or three times a day should bring results.

Baking Soda May Help Fight Colds and the Flu

Some people believe that when taken internally, baking soda can help maintain the pH balance in your bloodstream. This is likely the basic premise behind its recommended uses against both colds and influenza symptoms. In their booklet "Arm & Hammer Baking Soda Medical Uses," published in 1924, Dr. Volney S. Cheney recounts his clinical successes with sodium bicarbonate in treating cold and flu:2
"In 1918 and 1919 while fighting the 'flu' with the U. S. Public Health Service it was brought to my attention that rarely anyone who had been thoroughly alkalinized with bicarbonate of soda contracted the disease, and those who did contract it, if alkalinized early, would invariably have mild attacks.

The administration is easy enough, and is relatively harmless even if you should not experience relief from your cold symptoms. Simply dissolve the recommended amount of baking soda in a glass of cold water and drink it. Recommended dosages from the Arm & Hammer Company for colds and influenza back in 1925 were:
  • Day 1 -- Take six doses of ½ teaspoon of baking soda in glass of cool water, at about two-hour intervals
  • Day 2 -- Take four doses of ½ teaspoon of baking soda in glass of cool water, at the same intervals
  • Day 3 -- Take two doses of ½ teaspoon of baking soda in glass of cool water morning and evening, and thereafter ½ teaspoon in glass of cool water each morning until cold symptoms are gone

Spinal Stenosis Reversal Information

I have been a type 2 diabetic for over 10 years now. I consider it a gift from God that I have no trace of verifiable Neuropathy. Recently however I had some possible warning signs and took the steps to check it out. For the past 4 years, I have been pretty faithful at walking almost every single day for 1.5 to 3 miles on average. In addition I have done stretches, abdominal core strengthening exercises, push ups, climbing stairs two at a time workouts etc.

Very recently while walking I started having episodes of my right leg calf muscles seizing up while walking. This occurred mainly while walking briskly. It became very difficult if not impossible to continue my normal routine of walking. My right foot also began to have pin prick type pain around the right side of my foot and occasional numbness in the ball of my right foot. On the other hand on a flat surface such as walking in a shopping mall, I am able to stroll around at a slower pace for up to 45 mins at a time while not taking any breaks without the calf muscles tightening. This allows me to get some walking in without pain and yet burn some calories and derive some positive benefit in the process.

I had an upcoming diabetes routine exam at the Joslin Clinic and passed the thin wire touching exam on both feet which gave me piece of mind. Prior to this my chiropractor had ordered an ultra sound exam of my entire right leg and foot to rule out a blood clot. That test was also negative.

Back on 2008 or 2009 approximately I suffered through a few months of very severe sciatica and pain again down the right leg and lower back. The problem stemmed from inflammation in the L4, L5 and S1 area of my back. I had two nerve block shots at that time and have lived pretty much pain free since then until the recent problem with the right calf.

The MRI and subsequent lower back X-rays revealed some stenosis in my lower back which is likely restricting blood flow down the right leg causing the seizing up of the calf muscles. The left side is pretty normal, however there is definitely narrowing in the right side which could be slightly pinching a nerve and or restricting blood flow.

Surgery is an option along with 1 or maybe 2 nerve block shots. My wife and I do ministry work in Ireland every year and with an upcoming trip planned for 7 weeks, I choose not to avail myself of either option prior to the trip.

I have said all of that.....................to say THIS!

I don't want to be stupid about my future health and recognize that without any treatment or change of diet etc. the stenosis will likely keep progressing.

I use surgery, drugs etc. as a LAST RESORT, and always have.

The article mentions dietary restrictions and changes along with higher doses of Vitamin C, Tumeric and ginger root, Bragg's apple cider vinegar with the "MOTHER", Arm and Hammer Baking Soda, Melatonin and DHEA supplementation along with Lecithin, heat and ice therapy etc.

I personally felt it was a well done article and the emphasis is on changing the PH of your system from ACID to Alkaline and getting OFF SUGAR and diet sodas which contain Aspartame etc.

It is not a 7 day cure but a change in lifestyle.

It does not hurt to seek out the Lord and ask him to heal you and reverse the progress of stenosis in your body and to seek out a prayer group and have them lay hands on you for the elimination of arthritis.

The Great Physician's RX

I purchased a copy of the above listed book when it first came out and the Jordan Rubin story was being promoted along with the resulting "Garden Of Life" supplements and other health products.

There seems to be a resurgence of emphasis on promoting different lifestyles and special diets as the one true route to health and happiness and each one claiming to be the best diet out there.

To start with the book mentions a study performed by the Archives of Internal Medicine, that the ranks of the extremely obese grew from 1 in 2000 back in 1986 to 1 in 400 by the year 2000. Kind of shocking when you think of it. I was born in 1947 and grew up eating a diet consisting of raw cows milk, veggies from our own garden, fruits from our own farm, and meat from which we knew the source and water from our own well.

Despite numerous pharmaceutical drug ads at every station break on TV and what seems to be the latest, greatest new arrival type 2 diabetes drug every day, type 2 Diabetes is running rampant as opposed to getting better.

Personally I do not believe prescription drugs to be the answer and I do not buy into radical diets which exclude any and all foods not under the diet label.

EXAMPLES:

LACTO vegetarians do not eat ANY animal flesh, but they do eat dairy products
OVO vegetarians do not eat flesh or milk products but do allow eggs.
LACTO-OVO vegetarians do not eat RED meat, but allow fish, eggs and dairy products. Some semi-vegetarians claim they can eat chicken as well, but not sure how you can call it vegetarianism when you allow poultry.
VEGANS do not eat any animal products at all, choosing to rely on plant based food for their nutrition.  SOME Vegans are so extreme that some won't eat anything that comes from a creature such as honey from bees.

Jordon Rubin's research and information in his book does not support a vegetarian or vegan diet for long term health. He lists Stephen Byrnes, Ph.D., author of "The Myths of Vegetarianism" as one of his sources.

One study mentions that while vegetarians have lower rates of heart disease their death rates from all causes of death were higher than meat eaters.

Some vegetarians say that they cannot tolerate meat because it isn't what it used to be and is often loaded with chemicals and hormones. Jordan Rubin indicates that many store bought vegetables are also pretty toxic. One can overcome this to a certain extent by by buying organic fruits and veggies in season and carefully washing all fruits and veggies before eating them.

Another (POSSIBLE fault ?) with most strict veggie, or vegan diets is the body does not receive enough protein and obtaining (the essential 8 amino acids which must come from sources outside the human body.) There are apparently 22 amino acids and 8 of them are found in chicken, beef, lamb, dairy, cheese, eggs etc. The jury is still out on this topic and I have read hundreds of comments both pro and con on different websites.

Strict vegans and vegetarians also lack protein provided by nuts, seeds, legumes, cereal grains etc. Lack of essential fatty acids are another problem in very strict diets.

I WORK HARD AT:

STAYING AWAY FROM OVER PROCESSED FOODS AND ESPECIALLY HYDROGENATED AND PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED OILS IN YOUR DIET.

(Instead I use cold pressed extra virgin olive oil and organic cold pressed coconut oil and I do eat natural peanut butter off a tablespoon without hydrogenated oils present)


  • I AVOID WHEAT PRODUCTS AFTER RESEARCHING THE "WHEAT BELLY DIET"
  • I STAY AWAY FROM CARBONATED COLAS WHETHER DIET OR NOT
  • I AVOID THE CRUNCHIE MUNCHIE ISLE OF THE GROCERY STORE AND NO LONGER EAT BREAD, BISCUITS, PANCAKES, SYRUP, cakes, cookies, dough nuts, candy, cracker jacks, empty calorie foods  ETC.
  • I DO EAT A VARIETY OF NUTS EVERY WEEK INCLUDING PISTACHIOS, WALNUTS, PEANUTS, ALMONDS, BRAZIL NUTS, CASHEWS ETC.
  • I STILL ALLOW COTTAGE CHEESE (A COUPLE OF TIMES A WEEK)
  • I SWITCHED TO ALMOND MILK
  • I EAT OATMEAL EVERY MORNING WITH ORGANIC GROUND FLAX SEEDS AND FIBER ONE CEREAL SPRINKLED ON IT ALONG WITH A HANDFUL OF GRAPES AND BLUEBERRIES. I TOP IF OFF WITH A PACKET OF STEVIA IN THE RAW TO TASTE and a dash of almond milk.
  • I DRINK A LOT OF WATER
  • I EXERCISE A LOT
  • I STILL EAT MEAT AND FISH AND CHICKEN IN MODERATION .......NOT NEARLY AS MUCH AS I USED TO.
  • (I AM DOING MORE RESEARCH ON WHEY PROTEIN WHICH SEEMS TO BE VERY CONTROVERSIAL RIGHT NOW DEPENDING ON WHOSE ARTICLE AND WHAT RESEARCH YOU ARE READING. I BELIEVE THAT TOO MUCH OF ANYTHING CAN BE DETRIMENTAL TO ONE'S HEALTH.
  • FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND AT THIS POINT THE BASIC ARGUMENT IS THAT WE GET TOO MUCH PROTEIN OR NOT ENOUGH PROTEIN BOTH OF WHICH CAN BE A PROBLEM. A SAFE ALTERNATIVE FROM WHAT I HAVE READ IS "PEA PROTEIN" TO REPLACE WHEY PROTEIN ESPECIALLY IF IT CONTAINS CASEIN.

IF WE SIMPLY GAVE UP ALL THE JUNK FOODS INSTEAD ARGUING OVER THE BEST DIET, WE WOULD LIVE LONGER, HAVE MUCH LOWER A1C READINGS AND WITH A DOCTOR'S HELP BE ABLE TO WEAN OURSELVES OFF MANY OF THE HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE AND HIGH GLUCOSE PRESCRIPTION DRUGS WE ARE ON. IN ADDITION WORKING OUR WAY UP TO WALKING 2 MILES EVERY SINGLE DAY WOULD DO WONDERS. THOSE WHO MAKE THEIR LIVING ON THE ROAD AND ARE ACCUSTOMED TO EATING AT FAST FOOD RESTAURANTS WITH LUNCH BEING A BURGER KING WHOPPER OR A MCDONALD'S BIG MAC AND FRIES WITH A COUPLE OF APPLE PIES ALL WASHED DOWN WITH A 16 OZ PEPSI OR COKE ARE SLOWLY KILLING THEMSELVES. I ATE NUMEROUS MEALS IN A HURRY ON THE ROAD OVER THE YEARS THAT I LEFT THE HOUSE AT 7:AM AND SOMETIMES GOT HOME BETWEEN 8:PM AND 10:PM BECAUSE OF APPTS.
TODAY, I RARELY EAT OUT AND AVOID FAST FOOD CHAINS LIKE THE PLAGUE.


IN CLOSING:

I live my life. I take a lot of supplements, check my blood sugar often and my blood pressure and my weight every single morning. If my weight varies by 2 lbs, I adjust my exercise and diet the next day.

I pray every day for guidance, I trust the Lord and enjoy life.

How Not To Die by Dr. Michael Greger

Just wanted to make readers aware of an interesting read which can also be found on video concerning the latest scientific information on a vegan diet for health and longevity. It is available on Audio.com or the actual book can be found on Amazon.com if that is your preference.

Listed below is a link to Dr. Greger's book and some basic information about the vegan diet.

In essence being a vegan based diet,  meat, chicken and  animal products are pretty much eliminated along with seafood and dairy products.

The primary foods are preferably fresh fruit (wide variety), fresh or frozen (possibly canned store bought OR HOME CANNED) and vegetables, greens and a wide variety of  beans, chick peas etc. for fiber content and nutrients, OATMEAL for breakfast and a variety of nuts. There is a wide variety of healthy choices which will keep one from getting bored and just might allow you to get OFF your diabetes medicines, your blood pressure medicines, your statin drugs, etc. and add life to your years and years to your life.

IN other words, if you follow the regimen and diet as outlined, you could be HEALED and not need any diabetic or blood pressure meds and be free from side effects of same.

YOU MUST however FIRST seek advice from your diabetes doctor when going on this regimen and most likely take your BG levels several times a day for the first three weeks or so and work with your doctor to lay out a plan to gradually cut back and possibly eliminate your BP and Diabetic meds.

This is especially TRUE if you are on insulin shots or an insulin meter device and/or have diabetic neuropathy or other symptoms you are dealing with. DON'T JUST STOP taking insulin on your own.
