Blueberries (vs.) Pomegrante's For Most Antioxidant Value

My frozen blueberries which I put on my oatmeal every morning along with organic ground flax seeds for Omega 3's claim to have the highest antioxidant value of any fruit. Most of what I read indicates although they are very high in antioxidant value, pomegranate's are the real winner.

Rather than argue with either fruit, I try to include BOTH in my daily regimen. I also take a pomegranate supplement and keep a plastic container of dried fruits (Including Pomegranates)  and nuts on hand. Being a type 2 diabetic, I do not eat a lot of either and if I drink the pomegranate juice, I try and select the juice from concentrate to keep the sugar content down.

Health Benefits of the Pomegranate
  • Most powerful anti-oxidant of all fruits
  • Potent anti-cancer and immune supporting effects
  • Inhibits abnormal platelet aggregation that could cause heart attacks, strokes and embolic disease
  • Lowers cholesterol and other cardiac risk factors
  • Lowers blood pressure
  • Shown to promote reversal of atherosclerotic plaque in human studies
  • May have benefits to relieve or protect against depression and osteoporosis
Many studies show that the pomegranate is one of the most powerful, nutrient dense foods for overall good health. These clinical findings clearly show a correlation between pomegranate compounds and their positive effect on both human and animal cardiovascular, nervous, and skeletal health. This is one fruit that you can't afford to exclude from your diet!

I first started taking pomegranate supplement capsules while up in the Berkshires, after getting back from 5 weeks of ministry work in Ireland. The most available source was a GNC store in the mall near where we stayed.

Since that time, I have had a chance to study pomegranate juice, extract, fruit etc. and feel one of the best ways to add the benefits of pomegranate to your diet is to take a supplement from VITACOST.

I will list one here that I am going to start ordering:

Vitacost Pomegranate Extract Featuring VitaGranate® Description

High-quality, standardized pomegranate extract.

What is Vitacost Pomegranate Extract Featuring VitaGranate®?

Vitacost Pomegranate Extract Featuring VitaGranate® is an extract of pomegranate standardized to 40% punicalagin, the most abundant polyphenol in the fruit. Scientific evidence indicates punicalagin is largely responsible for the antioxidant activity and health benefits associated with pomegranate juice.*

Pomegranates are a natural source of polyphenols and other antioxidants including tannins and anthocyanidins. Anthocyanins are natural pigments responsible for the fruit’s deep, rich color.

How does Vitacost Pomegranate Extract Featuring VitaGranate® support health?

  • Provides antioxidants that help guard against the effects of free radicals.*
Why choose Vitacost Pomegranate Extract Featuring VitaGranate®?
  • Easy way to obtain the benefits of pomegranate without having to drink large quantities of juice.
  • Supplies 500 mg of pomegranate extract per 2-capsule serving.
  • Punicalagin levels in pomegranate juice vary; VitaGranate features standardized pomegranate extract, ensuring consistent levels of the active ingredient in every dose.
  • Exceptional quality at extraordinary value.

I feel adding pomegranate supplements to one's regimen can be an added plus to the Dr. Linus Pauling & Dr. Mathias Rath's unified theory of heart disease program with vitamin C, the amino acids L-Lysine and L-Proline, vitamin E, CoQ10. It is a valuable supplement especially if you are a type 2 diabetic or have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes.

See the many posts on this BLOG about the "Unified Theory of Heart Disease" (VS.) The traditional medical communities lipid theory of heart disease. See which one makes the most sense to you after looking at both sides  the issue.

God Bless

Dan
