The Benefits Of Eating Cucumbers

Do you like cucumbers? I do. I often use them in my vita mixer drinks along with celery and a nice crisp apple. As mentioned in a previous post, celery is a proved blood pressure regulator. You can add cucumbers to that list. They also benefit and normalize your blood pressure. A medium sized cucumber has around 40 calories and lots of fiber. With some low calorie creamy dip, they make a much better snack than carbohydrate laden potato chips or nachos etc. Their high water content also helps in hydration of the body, especially on those hot summer afternoons. Cucumbers are a god source of vitamins A, C and Folate. Folate has been shown to reduce your homocysteine levels which may prove beneficial for combating heart disease.

Cucumbers have also proven useful for combating jaundice, diarrhea, sore throat, epilepsy, conjunctivitis, and even swelling of the extremities. I DIDN'T know that cucumbers also play a role in type 2 diabetes. First of all they DO NOT raise your blood sugar levels. The Beta cells in your pancreas produce insulin. Cucumbers are found to get a hormone used by the Beta Cells in the production of insulin.

They are also inexpensive and easy to add to salads, Vita Mixer drinks, and veggies trays along with low cal dip.
