Just say NO to Sugar and Be Healthier!

Here is some additional information on the dangers of too much sugar. I recently read an article by Ramona Emerson in a popular Woman's Health Magazine. The information applies equally to men.

White sugar is a profit maker in America and other countries as well. The dollar amount of retail sales for WHITE SUGAR  in the USA is $1.69 billion dollars.

For the Ladies, one of the talking points in the article is that sugar has a negative impact on the skin. As an example she mentions that when you eat a spoonful of Nutella for instance, the SUGAR attaches to the protein and fat cells in your body in a process known as glycation, forming "Advanced glycation and end products" or AGE's as they are called in the lab. This happens to all the cells of your body, however the effect appears to concentrate in collagen and elastin  according to Laura Goodman, a senior scientist at proctor & Gamble who specializes in skin-care products. In SHORT sugar ages you, especially in the looks department.

Many times in the pages of this blog, I have mentioned the concept of manufacturer's putting PROFIT AND SHELF LIFE above their concerns for the health of the people who consume their products.

This is particularly obvious in the addition of High Fructose Corn Syrup and too much fructose in general. Fructose in higher amounts is NOT good for your brain or your body.

While it is true that we BURN glucose for energy in almost every cell in our body, fructose is NOT essential for any physiological function that we know of, per Lue Tappy, a researcher at the university of Lausanne in Switzerland. (For women at least) - For men it does have one vital function which is the production of semen.

In general fructose is only metabolized by the liver, where it is concerted to among other things, fat. That fat can build up in the liver and is released in the bloodstream in the form of triglycerides, high levels of which have been linked to heart disease, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome (a precursor of these conditions).

After just 12 days of drinking fructose sweetened drinks, adults in one study had increased levels of triglycerides and cholesterol which can lead to heart disease.

Another interesting study showed that when you drink a beverage sweetened only with glucose, the subjects reported feeling satisfied. When they were given the same amount of a fructose sweetened drink they remained hungry.

Here are the 10 most popular sweets among American Women aged 20 to 39 according to consumer-research company Gfk MRI. The 10 are re markedly similar in calories and sugar content with 21-30 grams except skittles which contains 46 grams of sugar.

Reese's peanut butter cups
Kitkat bars
Snickers
M&M's
Twix
Skittles
Milk chocolate M&M's
Hershey's bar
Butterfingers
Dove bar

In closing here are comments from Lustig who created a video called, "SUGAR: The Bitter Truth" which has been viewed over 4 million times:

The gist of it is that sugar in addition to all the problems sugar may cause of making us fat, taking the place of needed nutrients wee need to thrive, the sugar molecule itself is poisoning us.

He would love to debate Elizabeth Seaquist who is the president of the "American Diabetes Association as they maintain that sugar is NOT the problem.

See the link below as only ONE example of where the American Diabetes Association obtains fund for research from:

research/

I have read in print many times that the soft drink industry in general contributes a LOT of money to diabetes research while maintaining that sugar is not the problem. See previous posts on the importance of maintaining a slightly alkaline PH of your body's "Interstitial Fluid" which is the fluid which bathes your trillions of body cells.

All soft drinks, coke, Pepsi etc. whether diet or regular negatively affect your Interstitial fluid's PH balance which is critical to long term health.
