The Nitty Gritty Of Defeating Type 2 Diabetes

Ever heard the old saying, "It's simple, NOT necessarily EASY, but simple" ?

To reverse and defeat type 2 diabetes, follow some simple steps:

FIRST look at similarities amongst most if not all type 2 Diabetics:

  • HIGH intake of synthetic hydrogenated oils (fats)
  • SEDENTARY lifestyle - little or NO exercise
  • LOW intake of Omega 3 fatty acids
  • HIGH intake of refined sugar, high fructose corn syrup and simple carbohydrates
  • INADEQUATE body stores of trace minerals, vitamins and essential nutrients

How Safe Is Fructose?
High fructose corn syrup came into widespread use as a sugar substitute in the 1970’s because of its lower price. By 1990 the quantity of fructose consumed had gone up ten fold. This is now present in candy, soda, cereal, crackers, bread, packaged foods and hundreds of other foods.
Fructose was believed to be a safe sugar substitute because it has no adverse effects on either blood sugar values or insulin output. However, there are two serious problems from fructose usage.
When ingested, fructose is immediately shuttled directly to the liver. In the liver it is a key building block in the manufacture of triglycerides. These triglycerides are then transported to the bloodstream carried by LDL (bad) cholesterol to the arteries where they can deposit in the artery walls. Animal research has shown that feeding a high fructose diet to animals is one of the fastest ways to raise triglyceride levels in the blood. The amount of fructose eaten by Americans is comparable in quantity to that fed to these animals. Diabetics commonly have elevated blood triglyceride values which clearly contribute to the development of arteriosclerosis.
Fructose is commonly regarded as the sugar found in fruit. The important distinction is that in fruit the quantity of fructose is small and it is bound to complex plant fiber, nutrients and minerals. Because of this fructose contained in fruit is slowly released into the bloodstream and fruits are considered a valuable protection against cardiovascular disease and other health problems because of their powerful anti-oxidant qualities.
The second major problem with fructose is its ability to combine with amino acids to form advanced glycation end products (AGEs). AGEs are believed to be permanent. They accumulate in body tissues where they accelerate aging and thus contribute to the formation of cataracts, narrowing of arteries and kidney disease.
High intake of fructose contributes to increased levels of glycation in the body. Reducing all sugar and fructose intake appears to be a wise health measure.
When you eat only food that spoils, avoid sugar and transfats and begin Omega 3 essential fatty acids you will start turning your health around.

To regain normal blood sugar values requires:
  • Permanent elimination of all packaged food. This means that foods packaged in boxes, cans, bottles have objectionable contents in 90 % of cases. Read labels so you can refuse to buy dangerous foods. The simplest solution is to buy only foods that will spoil. Fast foods are loaded with calories, sugar and transfats and should be avoided. All transfats must be permanently terminated. This is what caused the problem and if you return to eating transfats the diabetes will recur. In the supermarket all bottles labeled soy oil, canola oil, corn oil, saffola oil, sunflower seed oil contain dangerous transfats. Substances labeled unsaturated fat and polyunsaturated fat are also transfats made in factories that will not spoil.

  • Initially get rid of all sugar intake. This means sugar, sodas, candy, pies, cakes, cookies and ice cream must go along with the packaged food. When blood sugar values have stabilized at normal values small quantities of honey and brown sugar may be added. Use safe stevia for sweetening foods.

    • Restore your body’s mineral and nutrient content toward normal by taking Glucobalance or Blood Sugar Improvement Formula. These can be found in health food stores and the Tehama Clinic pharmacy phone 425-264-0059. Dr. Jonathan Wright suggests diabetics have a daily intake of the following nutrients chromium 1000 to 2000 mg., Niacin 1.5 to 2.5 mg , Niacinamide 50 to 100 mg ,Biotin 8 to 16 mg., Alpha-lipoic- acid 300 mg., Co-Enzyme Q 10-60 mg. Vitamin K 5 to 10 mg., Vitamin D -2000 I.U. daily, Vitamin E (as mixed tocopherols) 400 IU, Vitamin C 2000-3000 mg., Magnesium 300-400 mg., Vanadium 1-2 mg., Zinc 30 mg. Copper 2 mg., Manganese 5-10 mg., Most supplements will lack a few of these ingredients which can be added from another source. Swanson Health of Fargo, N. Dakota has a large stock of nutrients Their phone number is 1-800-437-4148.

    • Begin taking Omega 3 fatty acids. Thomas Smith currently suggests alternating 2 or 3 tablespoons of flax oil or 4 tablespoons of ground flaxseed one day with one capsule of fish oil twice daily the following day. We like Barlean’s flax products which can be found in health food stores. Because flaxseed has cancer preventing lignans and valuable aminoacids it has greater health values than flax oil. We like Nordic Naturals Artic Omega brand of fish oil because of the high quality controks used in it’s production and it’s pleasant taste.

    • Food intake initially will be ideal if large amounts of raw foods such as vegetables in salads with Bragg’s raw apple cider vinegar are eaten. The food enzymes are preserved in uncooked food when it is raw. • Initially minimize dietary fats as much as possible other than the daily Omega 3 fatty acids (Flax oil, Fish oil). Baking and broiling will help. After blood sugar control has been restored butter, unrefined coconut oil, and extra virgin olive oil and unrefined sesame oil may be slowly added back into the diet. The addition of these new fats should be gradual so no relapse in blood sugars from excessive fat intake occurs. Use only butter, extra virgin olive oil, and unrefined coconut oil for cooking. Add water to the olive oil and coconut oil as needed to avoid burning.

    • A critical cornerstone of diabetic management is regular exertion (walking, swimming. gym workouts etc.) This can be as simple as walking two miles 5 or 6 days weekly. Burning up calories by exercising greatly improves blood sugar values. If you wish to undertake strenuous exertion it is advisable to obtain an exercise treadmill test first as diabetics are notorious for having significant coronary artery arteriosclerosis without symptoms. Weight lifting increases muscle mass which facilitates greater calorie burn up with exercise. Fifteen to 20 minutes of exercise after meals works very well to lower blood sugar values but should be avoided if you have chest pain (angina) after meals.

    WORDS OF WISDOM....................................................
To be successful in ridding yourself of Type 2 diabetes you must change what you eat. If you continue to believe that “I deserve a break today” you will have great difficulty curing this disease.

DHEA May Postpone Or Prevent Insulin Resistance
The adrenal gland hormone dihydroepiandosterone (DHEA) is the precursor hormone for the formation of both estrogen and testosterone in the human body. Levels of DHEA steadily fall from maximum levels at age 25 to 30 to about 50 % of normal by age 40 (200 mcg./dl.). Supplementation with DHEA in the elderly has slowed some of the effects of aging on estrogen and testosterone. Stress is counteracted, immune function is improved, protection against the appearance of cardiovascular disease may occur, increased insulin growth factor appears which preserves muscles and diminishes fat accumulation, excessive clotting of blood is slowed, improved survival is seen in population studies, depression is alleviated in 50 to 60 % of persons often beginning within 10 days and brain aging is stopped.

(MY INPUT....................I take 25mg of DHEA every morning, sometimes 50mg. I also alternated between the two and sometimes go a few days with ZERO and then start again)

Reducing Inflammation In The Body

Chronic inflammation is closely linked with a multitude of diseases. That being said, here are some ways to alleviate chronic inflammation.

LINK to Beating Chronic Inflammation

EXCERPTS:

by Dr. Rita Louise
When we experience any kind of inflammation, it’s our body’s way of letting us know we are hurt. Inflammation is the body’s innate way of protecting itself from infection and foreign substances. Everyone has experienced inflammation at one time or another. It is a normal function of our body’s immune system and the first response to an injury.
Inflammation is characterized by redness, swelling, heat, pain and loss of function. When we cut, scratch or bruise ourselves, for example, chemicals in the white blood cells are released, increasing blood flow to the affected area. This can result in redness and warmth. In addition, some of the chemicals set off a leakage of fluids into the tissues causing them to swell. The injury may also stimulate nerves located in the tissues, producing pain.
Tonsillitis, colitis, arthritis and encephalitis are all names used to describe inflammatory disorders of specific organs and are designated with the suffix “itis”. Research suggests inflammation may be the root cause for most chronic disorders including heart disease, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease and cancer. Some evidence has also linked inflammation to issues such as obesity and diabetes.
Called prostaglandins, recent studies have identified this hormone-like compound, made by our body, as playing a role in a wide variety of physiological processes, including inflammation. Some prostaglandins promote inflammation while others reduce it. The kinds of foods that we eat, particularly fats and oils, can greatly influence the types of prostaglandins the body produces.
Omega-6 fatty acids, found in most cooking oils including corn, safflower, peanut and soybean oil, promote inflammation. On the other hand, oils found in cold water species of fish (like salmon), flax seeds and leafy green vegetables contain omega-3 fatty acids, which are anti-inflammatory. It has also been recognized that transfatty acids, particularly those found in partially hydrogenated oils, increase inflammation in the body because they interfere with the enzymes needed to process omega 3 fatty acids.
If you suffer from inflammation or an inflammatory disorder, there are a number of natural, alternative health remedies you can try to help reduce the symptoms inflammation you are experiencing.

Recommendations For Wellness
  • Avoid or modify activities that may aggravate pain.
  • Exercise. Exercise releases compounds such as endorphins into the blood that can soothe inflammation.
  • Increase your consumption of vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, green beans and salads, which also contain anti-inflammatory nutrients.
  • Avoid sugar, white breads, pasta and starchy vegetables which can increase inflammation.
  • Avoid polyunsaturated oils like corn, safflower, peanut or soy which are high in omega-6 fatty acids. Instead, cook with healthier oils like olive oil, macadamia nut oil or cold pressed canola oil.
  • Increase your consumption of coldwater fish like salmon, mackerel and herring which contain high amounts of omega-3 fatty acids or supplement with omega-3 or flax seed oil that can block inflammation producing compounds.
  • Try an elimination diet which can rule out any food intolerances that may promote an inflammatory response in the body.
  • Examine your environment. Eliminate or reduce your use of toxic household cleaners that may be causing an allergic reaction.
  • Valued for centuries, ginger has a long history as an anti-inflammatory and has properties similar to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) like ibuprofen.
  • Studies have shown that vitamin E can also help with inflammation, which may account for the heart benefits often associated with this vitamin.
  • Calcium and magnesium are important minerals in the healing process and are often depleted in conditions of inflammation.
  • Chamomile, turmeric, green tea, cat’s claw, boswellia and white willow bark all have powerful anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Take a high quality vitamin and mineral supplement to ensure your body has all the nutrients it needs to operate properly.
(MY INPUT) Diabetics need to dramatically increase their intake of Omega 3's and avoid the Omega 6's until their balance is brought into line. The hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils are high in Omega 6's and contribute to inflammation in the body.

EXCERPT:

Here are just a few suggestions for reducing chronic inflammation:

1. The primary pathway of inflammation is built primarily from Omega 3 fatty acids. Taking supplements rich in these natural nutrients assists the body in having a more profound primary inflammatory response and at the same time, it minimizes the chronic inflammation responsible for pain and suffering. (Nordic Naturals - 1000 mg 3x a day containing a minimum of 300 mg EPA and 200 mg DHA)

2. Taking supplements rich in plant enzymes such as bromelain assist the body as catalysts for the repair of our cells. Taken on an empty stomach, these enzymes can break down the byproducts of inflammation thus clearing the way for cellular repair. (Bromelain Plus 6 - 250-500mg 3x a day)

3. Efficient inflammation depends on a healthy immune system. 70% of the cells of our immune system are found in the gastrointestinal tract. These cells are fed by short chain fatty acids (that do not exist in nature), which are the result of fermentation of complex carbohydrates -- whole grains, vegetables, beans -- by the friendly bacteria (probiotics) of our intestinal lining. So it is essential for anyone suffering with inflammation to take an ample supply of probiotics on a daily basis. (Theralac Probiotic - 20 billion CFU daily)

4. Consuming a diet low in Omega 6-rich foods like meat, dairy, baked goods, flour products, and grains (basically the standard American diet), is also helpful when looking to relieve inflammation. Although Omega 6 fatty acids are essential in any diet because they are the building blocks of chronic inflammation (which helps the body protect itself when it can't repair itself efficiently), it will cause the immune system to bypass primary inflammation and default into chronic inflammation, when consumed in excess.

5. Since we require water to serve as the vehicle for all chemical reactions in the body as well as to flush out toxins, proper hydration becomes paramount (the daily requirement varies from individual to individual, consult your physician for what's right for you). I am not talking about dehydrating liquids such as caffeinated beverages and alcohol, but rather, clean, fresh water preferably filtered, distilled, or from a reliable spring.

There are many things that influence inflammation and many other things that you can do (in addition to these 5 recommendations) to keep inflammation working efficiently in your body and minimizing the uncomfortable and often disabling effects of chronic inflammation.

Rapid Rise In Incidence Of Diabetes In America and Globally

The statistics keep getting worse all the time it seems. Diabetes has increased over 500% since 1950. To me that seems to fit in with my last two posts on the introduction of Crisco, and then hydrogenated oils, partially hydrogenated oils, replacing butter with margarine and the push to treat ALL SATURATED FAT EQUALLY AS BAD FOR YOU.

The changes in the American diet since 1950 have been dramatic and for the most part, NOT for the betterment of our health.

I was born in 1947 and am 63 years old. I can remember as a kid when one of the first McDonald's restaurants opened on Erie blvd in Syracuse, NY. My older brother and I and a friend from school who had just got his driver's license were headed to the NYS Fair. The three of us stopped and best as I can recall bought (24) cheese burgers to take to the fair. The price at that time was on the order of 10 or 15 cents each. I think we also got enough french fries to feed 1/2 the city of Syracuse and enough carbonated soda to clean the tires on a 1000 automobiles. We were kids, and excited about our friend having his driver's license and being able to get all those burgers and fries really FAST. We had NO clue that eating 8 cheese burgers and  all those fries and washing it down with sugar laden cola was BAD for you. Well maybe we had some inkling, however we were at the age of perhaps being old enough to know better, but too young to care.

In any event, looking back now, I find it interesting to note that we were entering into the arena of FAST FOOD. Today in 2011, we have fast food places of every sort and description it seems on every street corner and in every plaza across the country. You can have your choice of SUPER SIZED cheese burgers, fries, gallons of carbonated sugar laden colas, pizza, Mexican, Chinese etc, in just about every exit off our major turn pikes and in every town across the country. Practically every gas station now has a mini mart attached where you can load up on donuts of every shape and size (cream filled, sugar and sprinkle coated, chocolate covered etc.) and a full isle of bags of every type of snack food known to man. You can have every type of high carbohydrate, sugar and salt laden corn chips, pretzels, potato chips of every size, texture and flavor imaginable and your full daily supply of indigestible, harmful fillers and food additives and colorings.

Me thinks there must be some correlation between the increase in obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer and a host of other ailments including especially TYPE 2 DIABETES in this country and around the world.

It follows then, that I feel that most fast food is a fast track to Type 2 Diabetes. Is it just a coincidence that the fast food and bagged snacks and donuts and baked goods are full of too much salt, trans fats, hydrogenated oils, high fructose corn syrup, food additives and preservatives etc. had their beginnings about the time that Type 2 Diabetes started on the road of becoming an EPIDEMIC 40 TO 50 YEARS LATER? To be fair to the fast food industry, some of them have made strides to provide some menu items that are acceptable if you are watching what goes into your digestive track. For Mickey D's as an example, their Asian Salad and a zero calorie vitamin water is a much better choice than their double cheese burger, fries and a 70 plus grams of sugar fruit smoothie.

I was a business man for 30 years and owned my own insurance office, so do not take my input here as being heaped on "Evil Corporate America". I am a big supporter of American Ingenuity and the free enterprise system. I think that many of our fast food chains were simply ignorant of the evils of (hydrogenated oils and high fructose corn syrup) when these places got off the ground back in the late 40's and early 1950's.

It is absolutely stunning to me that the medical community does not see a link between the rise of fast food restaurants, an explosion of the snack food industry and the rise of Pepsi and Coca Cola and the incidence of Type 2 Diabetes in America and around the world. (OR DO THEY?) We spend probably BILLIONS on research and DRUGS while ignoring the evidence before us and the co-relation between a 500% rise in diabetes since 1950 and the foods we are eating and our lack of exercise.

LINK To RISE Of Diabetes Since 1950

EXCERPT from article:

We need to approach preventing type 2 diabetes with three essential elements in mind. First, we must recognize that type 2 diabetes is the result of changes in lifestyle that have occurred gradually with technological advances. Second, we must acknowledge that the realities of changing a person's lifestyle are multidimensional and complicated. And third, we must accept that the Association, and particularly health professionals, must play the pivotal role in leading this effort.
The prevalence and incidence of diabetes has grown 500% in the United States since 1950. The incidence of type 2 diabetes is expected to nearly double worldwide by 2010, from 119 million to 213 million people.
Why is this happening? As we all know, diabetes develops as a result of a yet-to-be-understood interaction between genetics and lifestyle. (PERSONALLY I THINK LIFESTYLE IS 95% AND MAYBE 5% GENETICS) Specific lifestyle behaviors, such as changes in diet, reduced physical activity, and the alarming worldwide increase in obesity, have been implicated as responsible for the rise in type 2 diabetes. It has been termed "urbanization," "Westernization," and even "Coca-Colanization." Nonetheless, it is the good life: an abundance of food and the technology to decrease our physical work load.
Outside of genetics, obesity is the number one risk factor for type 2 diabetes. If the trend toward gaining weight does not change, researchers estimate that 100% of the U.S. population will be obese by 2030. In considering this, our vision to prevent type 2 diabetes must include modifying lifestyles to prevent and treat obesity.

Diabetes On The Increase

When I started this BLOG my first POST on the purpose of this BLOG gave 2007 statistics for the USA as 23.6 million people with diabetes. For 1/26/2011 the numbers are now estimated at 25.8 milllion or 8.3% of the population.

ESTIMATED GLOBAL statistics are for the year 2000 171 million people globally had diabetes with greatest increases coming in Type 2 diabetes.

Estimates globally for 2030 is that diabetes will have reached 366 million people around the world and that means it will MORE than double in the next 19 years.

We have already spent billions of dollars in research and I have personally known quite a few people who made the progression from following the ADA diet, starting out on one or two prescription drugs and are now on insulin pumps, and YES there current numbers are in line with ADA standards. Just having your numbers in line or being in "Good Control" is not going to cut it for the long haul.

The real problem with that scenario is that they are on a road to total destruction and possible amputations, diabetic neuropathy and possibly even death from complications of diabetes all while following the classic pattern of progression set up by their personal doctor or the ADA in general.

My observation is that whatever we (as a nation) are doing about diabetes is NOT working. My study and research and statistics I have found point out that for the most part it is a behavioural disease. Since the FDA and the ADA for some reason do not seem interested in treating Type 2 Diabetes on a "CELLULAR LEVEL", AND GETTING TO THE ROOT OF THE MATTER SO TO SPEAK, the future seems bleak to those who settle for the status quo.

In reading books such as, "Death To Diabetes" by DeWayne McCulley, and seeing how he personally went from  being in a diabetic coma with a blood sugar reading of 1337 and facing double amputation of his legs, to someone now leading a NORMAL life without drugs, or insulin is something that at least a PORTION of  diabetes research dollars should be spent on. However one has to wonder since there is no perpetuation of the FDA drug promoting policy and NO money to be made from natural simple cures, the research is stagnant in that arena.

The chances that the ADA and FDA are going to start tomorrow investigating the dangers of carbonated soft drinks, the PH factor, the dangers of hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils, the hypocrisy of allowing high fructose corn syrup in the diet of anyone, especially type 2 diabetics, seem to me "Slim and None".

That leaves you with the choice of making lifestyle changes that are proven and based on science and going after Type 2 Diabetes at the cellular level (vs.) more and more drugs, and then insulin pumps etc. with NO apparent or real change in one's lifestyle, and holding out for the Magic Bullet or wonder drug or cure.

As for myself, I think that our food should be our medicine and our medicine be our food.Today it seems the medical profession wants our medicine to be our food (I.E. never mind your diet and exercise - just take one of these in the AM and one in the PM and you will be all right) I think we should all be improving our eating habits and we should all be exercising and putting pressure on the FDA and the ADA to see where the research dollars are going and why no one is paying any attention to looking for natural cures at the cellular level.

More Insight On Cause and Cure Of type 2 Diabetes

Here is some historical insight on type 2 diabetes and some provocative insightful reasoning on the cause which in itself leads the way towards the cure.

The two real culprits in this insane epidemic of Type 2 Diabetes appear to  be the ingestion of two items in our diet.

  •  Hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils
  •  High Fructose Corn Syrup
Lets look at a brief history of CRISCO introduced in 1911. Back in 1911 was a time in our history when wives stayed home and generally cooked with lard and real butter. Through the genius of advertising, CRISCO was introduced as a healthier alternative for cooking. The MYTH has prevailed to this day, except now margarine has replaced butter, and hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils have replaced what we now know were the good fats. The process of hydrogenation was introduced by a German chemist named E.C Kayser in 1907. Crisco made their case with advertising that survived until April 25, 2001 when CRISCO went on the auction block

Crisco was originally called "KRISPO" however Proctor and Gamble was forced to look for another name because of patent problems, so they then tried the name CRYST and also had to abandon that name because of religious connotations.

Link to History of CRISCO

EXCERPT:

Crisco was introduced to the public in 1911. It was an era when wives stayed home and cooked with plenty of butter and lard. The challenge for Crisco was to convince the stay-at-home housewife about the merits of this imitation food. P&G’s first ad campaign introduced the all-vegetable shortening as “a healthier alternative to cooking with animal fats. . . and more economical than butter.” With one sentence, P&G had taken on its two closest competitors—lard and butter.

Two images from a 1912 advertisement for Crisco in the Ladies Home Journal.

P&G’s next step was a stroke of genius—they published and gave away a cookbook. The Story of Crisco2 looked like most other cookbooks of the era, but there was a difference. All of its 615 recipes, everything from lobster bisque to  pound cake, contained—you guessed it—Crisco.

The Story of Crisco is recognized as a classic in the subtle art of persuasion. Its language and contextual variety are “representative of the pre-WWI social milieu and reflect the urbanization, domestication, commercialization, education (or lack thereof) and simple sophistication of the times.”3 Crisco is presented as healthier, more digestible, cleaner, more economical, more enlightened and more modern than lard. Women who use Crisco are portrayed as good wives and mothers, their houses are free of strong cooking odors and their children grow up with good characters (because, according to the tortured logic of P&G’s advertising department, Crisco is easier to digest).

P&G also had the brilliant idea of presenting Crisco to the Jewish housewife as a kosher food, one that behaved like butter but could be used with meats. Because it made kosher cooking easier, Jews adopted Crisco and margarine—imitation lard and imitation butter—more quickly than other groups, with unforeseen consequences.

I remember switching from lard to Crisco to make pie crust when I was a teenager. We always used lard from the farm, but sometime in the 1960s, Mom innocently brought home our first can of Crisco. We started to use it liberally. That was the overt addition to the diet. What we didn’t know was that Crisco and its cousins were being covertly added to countless food items.

Two images from The Story of Crisco, 1913. On the left, a young woman holds a can of Crisco and an older woman a copy of the cookbook. On the right, a can of Crisco is set on the ground by the campfire.

We also didn’t know that the partially hydrogenated oils in Crisco—the trans fatty acids—were bad for us. In fairness to P&G, they didn’t know this either, not at first. But when reports of problems began to appear—problems like increased heart disease, increased cancer, growth problems, learning disorders and infertility—P&G worked behind the scenes to cover them up. One scientist who worked for P&G, Dr. Fred Mattson, can be credited with presenting the US government’s inconclusive Lipid Research Clinics Trials to the public as proof that animal fats caused heart disease. He was also one of the baleful influences that persuaded the American Heart Association to preach the phony gospel of the Lipid Hypothesis. The truth about the dangers of trans fatty acids in foods like Crisco is finally emerging. Perhaps that is why P&G decided to put their flagship product up for sale.

LINK to Diseases and Death Caused By Hydrogenated Oils

EXCERPTS:

Hydrogenated oils and trans fatty acids are silent killers

Research studies show conclusively these deadly oils cause non-insulin dependent type II diabetes, or hyperinsulinemia. This is a disease which can eventually burn out the pancreas and cause insulin dependent diabetes. These changed molecular oils dramatically increase the risk of coronary heart disease, breast cancer, other types of cancers and auto immune diseases. Over 100 research studies show how harmful these oils are to the human body. However, these findings have been largely ignored by the mass media and the FDA. In addition, the Commercial Edible Food Industry has suppressed these research findings for sometime. Why? Money and lots of it! Food processing companies and the companies that own the patents on this process would lose billions of dollars if they had to change their method of food production of hydrogenating oils. The main reason oils are hydrogenated is that the hydrogenation of the oils act as a preservative. This leads to increased shelf life of products and less returns or spoilage of products. But at what cost is it to the human body?

Why the body needs essential fatty acids

Mother nature dictates very simply the proper nutrients the human body needs for proper functioning. Through thousands of years of genetic evolution to our environment, the body has changed in how it absorbs, metabolizes and utilizes nutrients obtained from natural foods. Essential fatty acids are very important nutrients the body needs for many reasons. Dr. Joanna Budwig, a West German biochemist was the first to shed light on the role of essential fatty acids. She has been nominated several times for the Nobel Prize in medicine and is recognized as the world's leading authority on fats and oils. (There is a post on my BLOG of how to make the Budwig Mixture with cottage cheese and flax seed oil)
Essential fatty acids are the building blocks of fats. They play important roles within the human body by affecting almost every major organ, cell membrane production and immune system function. Natural occurring essential fatty acids have an electrical weight that changes the fluidity of cell membranes. This is very important on how healthy immune cells develop. When oils are transformed by the hydrogenation process, this electrical weight is changed in essential fatty acids. This affects the fluidity which causes cell membranes to "stiffen". Flaxseed oil is the best vegetable source of these natural occurring essential fatty acids. There are three important essential fatty acids needed by the human body. They are linoleic (omega-6 type), linoleic acid N (omega-4 type) and alpha-linolenic N (omega-3 type). There are 50 other various essential nutrients the body needs to function properly to produce good health.

MY INPUT:

I claim absolutely ZERO first hand knowledge of what is posted here, except the history and the studies cited herein make a lot of sense to a student like myself. I have a vested interest in this study as I am a Type 2 Diabetic however I do NOT WANT TO REMAIN ONE and I do not want to see anyone else added to the growing list of type 2 diabetics.

There seems to be insurmountable evidence that hydrogenated oils and high fructose corn syrup are the cause of many of the diseases that affect man kind, including but not limited to Type 2 Diabetes. There is that $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ factor involved and it is not likely to change in the near future. What then can one individual do?

  • He or she can stop buying and ingesting ANY and ALL products that contain (high fructose corn syrup) and (hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils). / most breads, practically all baked goods, pies, cakes, puddings, donuts etc.
  • He or she can replace those oils with flax seed oil, extra virgin olive oil, extra virgin coconut oil, fish oil, krill oil etc.
  • He or she can begin today READING LABELS on everything and in general avoiding most packaged foods and any and all snack foods such as potato chips, pretzels and the hundreds of other foods like corn chips etc. They are full of salt, hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils, preservatives, additives that are likely not very digestible and add nothing of nutritional value to your diet.
  • He or she can begin to eat a wide variety of green leafy vegetable and multi-colored vegetables
  • He or she could invest the savings from NO more snack foods and buy a Vita Mixer to make green smoothies and fruit smoothies
  • He or she could purpose in their hearts starting today to ride a bike, and walk or run, lift weights, do push ups, do core body strengthening exercises at least 4 times a week
  • He or she could stop buying carbonated soft drinks as they destroy the body's PH and interfere with your interstitial fluid that surrounds your cells and makes your body's cells insulin resistant.

More On Hydrogenated Oils and a Host of Modern Diseases

I think most of us know that (sugar) is bad, especially if you are a type 2 Diabetic. As bad as ingesting too much sugar is and we all do it, I wonder if the GREATER EVIL is not the products that contain the sugar. I wonder if it isn't the toxic metals accumulation in the products that contain the sugar and carbohydrates that are the REAL PROBLEM.

SEE my recent post on DANGERS of hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils. 99% of all the baked goods, doughnuts, cakes, pies, puddings, scones, bread, most cereals, canned goods, canned soups, candy, pies, salad dressings,  etc. contain to some extent hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils. I am of the opinion based on a fair amount of research that these oils are a plague on mankind.

These oils and toxic metals they contain have been STRONGLY linked to Type 2 Diabetes, Cancer, Alzheimer's and a host of other diseases. I am NOT down playing the ingestion of sugar, especially refined white sugar in all of these products. The more I read, the more I am convinced that the long term effects of hydrogenated oils in baked goods, cereals, breads, all kinds of packaged crackers, cookies, brownies, cereal bars, granola bars, etc. etc. is a greater curse that the sugar itself.

WHY? Because the introduction of hydrogenated & partially hydrogenated oils, margarine, etc.&  replacing real BUTTER, extra virgin OLIVE OIL, extra virgin COCONUT OIL, organic cold pressed flax seed oil etc. is what caused our cells TO BECOME INSULIN RESISTANT TO BEGIN WITH.

Excerpt from, "The cookie might kill you"

That Cookie Might Kill You!

Chances are you may have had a food product that contained Trans Fatty Acids. What's the danger you ask? I 'm about to share with you just a little of the hidden dangers and certain death that some of the most popular foods you eat can cause.
Do you eat foods such as, vegetable shortenings, margarine, crackers, candies, cookies, snack foods, fried foods, baked goods, and other processed foods made with Trans Fatty Acids with are hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated vegetable oils? Well if you do you are putting yourself and your family at risk for very serious diseases like Alzheimer's, Coronary Heart Disease and Type 2 Diabetes!

What are Trans Fatty Acids? These are hydrogenated oils that are created by fusing gas and oils together with what's called a metal catalyst. The catalyst is made of, nickel, aluminum or cobalt. The oils and hydrogen are fused together in temperatures reaching over 400 degrees, thereby changing the molecular structure of the oil.
Keep in mind that the metals that are used in the process of hydrogenation are highly toxic to your body with prolong use, which to me is bad enough, but the real culprit is the fact that the hydrogenated oils are "altered" and "unnatural" so your body cannot eliminate them naturally. Aluminum by itself has been shown to cause Cancer and Alzheimer's disease!
Kraft Foods, whom by the way is owned by Phillip Morris (the tobacco company) manufacturers everything from cheese to nutritional bars admits on their official website that and I quote "Consuming Trans Fatty Acids is directly linked to Coronary Heart Disease." They also say that the use of TFA (hydrogenated oils) improve the "texture" and "freshness" of certain products.
The fact is that companies use these oils because the cost is cheaper, the oil does not go rancid quickly and they get more volume from the hydrogenation process thereby allowing them to sell more of it! Did you know this?
The FDA states that food manufacturers can list their products as, 0 Trans Fat on their labels if the amount of Trans Fat is less than (0.5 grams) per serving.
Now how many of you eat The Suggested Serving Size that's on the packaging?????
The New England Journal of Medicine -- June 24, 1999 -- Vol. 340, No. 25, states," product labeling is not enough because fast foods contain high amounts of trans fatty acids and are exempt from labeling regulation". They also state, "Changing the use of hydrogenated oils to un-hydrogenated oils would substantially reduce the risk of coronary heart disease."
So with all this knowledge, what are your alternatives? Mono or polyunsaturated fats that are found in Olive and Peanut oils are the best oils to use. These oils do not clog your arteries but you should still use them in moderation. Please stay away from anything pre-packaged and don't fry your foods, bake them instead. Start cooking "real foods" again!
In closing, please take care of yourself. Do not think because you may be young, physically active or even "vegetarian" that you cannot fall victim to the deathly additives in food products today. Read labels! With every meal you consume, you are either poisoning or your nourishing your body!

SCARY STUFF ISN'T IT?

DEADLY DangersOf Hydrogenated and Partially Hydrogenated Oils

I have several posts now concerning the real dangers of hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils. Here is a reprint for your information from David Lawrence Dewey off his website on why you need to AVOID all use of hydrogenated oils.

REPRINT/EXCERPT:

What are hydrogenated oils and what is the process?
When and why were they invented?

The first patent for the hydrogenation process was in 1903 by William Norman. The first patent for hydrogenated cottonseed oil was in 1911. This is the same year that Proctor and Gamble came out with Crisco oil. Crisco was a combination of hydrogenated palm and cottonseed oil, mixed with lard and animal fats. People then were not purchasing it, so P&G started giving it away, literally. The patent was purchased by a major food producing company. In 1937, a new patent was filed by a Dr. Ellis working for a major oil company. He improved the process by separating certain fats for commercial use. Since then, additional patents have been filed for different methods of these processes. These patents from 1976 to present can be found at the U.S. Office of Patents and Trademarks on the Internet. Prior to 1976, patent searches must be done to find the original patents.
In 1911, Mazola oil, a salad and cooking corn oil was introduced. In 1914, most of the companies removed any remaining animal fats in the oils they were producing and started using vegetable oils completely. Until this time, people were at least getting some essential naturally occurring fatty acids because of the animal fats. After 1914, the population began getting trans-formed essential fatty acids that became trans-fatty acids in their foods by the introduction of hydrogenated oils.
In 1957, margarines began to out sell butter. (BAD news for America)
During the process of hydrogenation, hydrogen atoms are moved to what is called the opposite side of the double bond of the molecular structure of the fatty acid in the oil. Click here to see the molecular change in graph.
This newly formed molecular configuration of the fatty acid, ( a changed carbon molecular structure of the fatty acid which the genetics of the body does not recognize) has been named "trans", meaning "on the other side of." Trans-fatty acids alter the normal transport of minerals and other nutrients across cell membranes. It weakens the protective structure and function of the cell. Hydrogenation gas is fused into the oils using a metal catalyst, aluminum, cobalt, and nickel. Without the metals, the hydrogen could not be fused into the oils. All are toxic metals to the body. This fusion takes place under pressure at temperatures of 248-410 degrees. Another words, the oils are changed molecularly. When you compare this changed essential fatty acid, which has now become a trans- fatty acid, it matches the same molecular structure of Stearic Acid. One of the uses of Stearic Acid is in the making of candles. It makes candles hard. Could this have the same affect on the human body in the form of hardening of arteries? In addition, by hydrogenating oils, more volume is produced. It increases the volume of the oil thus making more available to sell. Final result, more profit. However, its' main purpose is to increase shelf life of products. It is a preservative, and a deadly one.
During the late 1930's and early 1940's, a dramatic increase was seen in the following diseases. First was a disease that looked like diabetes, acted like diabetes, but was not caused by a deficiency of insulin. The medical profession was dumbfounded. All they knew was that a person produced enough insulin, but it was not effective in reducing sugar in the blood. They did not know what caused the insulin to be resistant. The medical establishment named this new disease non-insulin dependent diabetes, type II. The second and third diseases that increased dramatically were heart disease and cancer. This is the period also where new diseases which fell into the auto-immune classifications were being seen for the first time and named. The medical profession also did not know what was causing these new auto-immune diseases. They placed blame on the faulty genetics of the immune system. There is a correlation here. The increase of these new diseases began shortly after the introduction of hydrogenated oils in the food supply.
During 1973 to 1994, there was an increase of 364.3 various cancers to 462.0 various cancers per 100,000 population, a 22% increase. This information is available from the National Institutes of Health. More alarming is that from 1973 to 1992, an increase from 364.3 various cancers to 530.33 cancers per 100,000 population was seen. This was a 31% increase, an additional 9% increase from the previous years.
Heart disease is now claiming over 750,000 lives a year. The fusing of certain metals such as aluminum into the oils could very well be the reason why they are detecting high levels of aluminum in people. We all know about the link of aluminum to Alzehimers molecularly in which the body doesn't know how to properly metabolize them. Hypercholesteremia, ( high cholesterol or triglycerides) is a early warning sign that you will develop hyperinsulinemia. This disease produces too much insulin. The insulin is not effective in reducing sugar in the blood.
At the turn of the century, there were 2.8 diagnosed cases of diabetes per 100,000 population and its' associated diseases. In 1949, this figure jumped to 16.4 per 100,00 population. This is a 585% increase in 50 years.
According to the National Center For Health Statistics
  • In 1985, there were 36,969 deaths caused by diabetes.
  • In 1995, there were 59,085 deaths caused from diabetes.
In ten years, this is 59.8 % increase, or roughly 6% per year. This increase of deaths caused from diabetes cannot be blamed on genetics. It can't be blamed because of people having bad genes. When you compare the substantial increases in the death rates today as to death rates before the introduction of hydrogenated oils in the food supply, anyone can very easily see the correlation. Nor does it have to do with newer diagnostic means or treatments of the disease. Deaths are deaths.
Leading experts in the research of diabetes estimate that today's figures of diagnosed cases of diabetes are now hitting 20,000 cases per 100,000 population. In 1949, the criteria for the diagnosis of diabetes was changed because this new disease of insulin resistant diabetes had not yet been named. However, is it a true diabetes or a disease created by harmful oils?

ANOTHER EXCERPT:

Studies Show These Effects Of Trans Fatty Acids On The Body

  • 1:) Lowers the "good" HDL cholesterol in a dose response manner (the higher the trans level in the diet, the lower the HDL cholesterol in the serum);

  • 2:) Raises the LDL cholesterol in a dose response manner;

  • 3:) Raises the atherogenic lipoprotein (a) in humans;

  • 4:) Raises total serum cholesterol levels by 20-30 mg%;

  • 5:) Lowers the amount of cream (volume) in milk from lactating females in all species studied, including humans, thus lowering the overall quality available to the infant;

  • 6:) Correlates to low birth weight in human infants;

  • 7:) Increases blood insulin levels in humans in response to glucose load, increasing risk for diabetes;

  • 8:) Affects immune response by lowering efficiency of B cell response and increasing proliferation of T cells;

  • 9:) Decreases levels of testosterone in male animals, increases level of abnormal sperm, and interferes with gestation in females;

  • 10:) Decreases the response of the red blood cell to insulin, thus having a potentially undesirable effect in diabetics;

  • 11:) Inhibits the function of membrane-related enzymes such as the delta-6 desaturase, resulting in decreased conversion of, e.g., linoleic acid to arachidonic acid;

  • 12:) Causes adverse alterations in the activities of the important enzyme system that metabolizes chemical carcinogens and drugs (medications), i.e., the mixed function oxidase cytochromes

  • 13:) Causes alterations in physiological properties of biological membranes including measurements of membrane transport and membrane fluidity;

  • 14:) Causes alterations in adipose cell size, cell number, lipid class, and fatty acid composition;

  • 15:) Adversely interacts with conversion of plant omega-3 fatty acids to elongated omega-3 tissue fatty acids; Escalates adverse effects of essential fatty acid deficiency;

  • 16:) Increases peroxisomal activity (potentiates free-radical formation)

  • 17:) Increased breast cancer in wome

  • 18:) Increased heart disease in men and women

  • 19:) Increases non-insulin dependent type diabetes disease

  • The above information should scare the Devil out of you and make you very angry. While millions and millions of dollars are being spent on supposed Type 2 Diabetes research, there is a great deal of evidence that the greed of profit in the hydrogenated oil industry gets the first prize for contributing to the dramatic increase in "Insulin resistant Type 2 Diabetes"

More On The Cause Of Type 2 Diabetes

I came across a rather LENGTHY, however interesting explanation of the cause and cure of Type 2 Diabetes. It is several pages, and YouTube videos long with the last page being an order form for a rather pricey product. I have NO idea of how effective this particular product might be. There are ton's of testimonials, however over the years, I have become somewhat skeptical of big colorful testimonials.

I am not knocking this website, or I would NOT post it for your consideration. I am ALWAYS interested in looking at legitimate cures or supplements with a proven track record for success without side effects. The excerpt from this site that I am posting appears to be in line with what I have been preaching as to the possible root cause or contributing causes of Type 2 Diabetes.

LINK to Bios Life Slim Product:

    EXCERPT:

Here's what happens in our bodies when Type 2 Diabetes develops.
The pancreas is a vital organ in our body near the stomach. Its main job is to produce the hormone, insulin. Carbohydrates stimulate the secretion of insulin more than any other component of our food.
Fast absorption-processed carbohydrates (There are also good slow absorption or 'complex' carbohydrates - They come from foods and liquids that haven't been refined in a food factory) in our food means that the pancreas has to work hard, and thus produces more insulin. If the pancreas is over-stimulated over a long period of time, it may become "exhausted."
Whenever we eat or drink, our bodies convert carbohydrates in our foods and liquids into a simple sugar called glucose, which is the fuel for our body's cells. This causes the glucose or sugar level in our blood to rise. In some instances, the more carbohydrates you consume, the higher your blood sugar rises. Your body then needs to metabolize this sugar and convert it to energy. This is where insulin and the pancreas come into the picture.
When your blood sugar rises after eating or drinking, your pancreas needs to produce insulin to help lower your blood sugar level. But that's a good thing, right? Yes, it is...
"So, what's the problem," you might ask? You'll soon understand.
The function of insulin is to help, or push the sugar from your bloodstream into the cells of your body, where the sugar (glucose) is then converted into your body's fuel (energy).
Here's where the problem occurs: On the outside of every cell, there are what we call "insulin receptors." These receptors act like guards, guarding the doorway into your cells. These guards (insulin receptors) regulate the amount of sugar that gets into your cells.
Your body's cells will only use the amount of glucose they require for fuel. Any excess glucose is stored in your body's fat cells where it is converted into free fatty acids. Once the glucose is out of your blood stream, insulin closes the doors to your cells, and slowly leaves your body.
When your body needs more energy, and there is no food handy, it turns to your fat cells and the free fatty acids stored inside them. The free fatty acids leave your fat cells and go right back into your blood stream to feed all of your body's other cells. They don't need insulin to open your cells' doors, so your pancreas doesn't have to produce any insulin this time. That's why they're referred to as "free" fatty acids, and that's how our bodies are designed to naturally burn fat.
This natural process of storing fat when you have too much glucose and burning fat when you don't enough glucose, is how our bodies were designed to work. In a perfect world, eating a perfect diet, everything in our body works perfectly. Unfortunately, we don't live in a perfect world, and most of us don't even come close to eating a perfect diet (a diet without all of the processed foods and liquids).
As a result, we don't benefit from this natural process very often. Instead, our body suffers by storing too much fat, and rarely, if ever burning any.
After many years of consuming a diet that is high in nutrient-depleted, fast absorption-processed carbohydrates (bad carbs), and because it takes longer for insulin to leave your body after its done its job... Your body can't access the free fatty acids to convert them into energy while insulin is still in your body... You get hungry or thirsty again; you eat and drink more processed carbohydrates in the food and liquids you consume that cause both your blood sugar and your body's insulin to spike again... And as this vicious cycle continues, a condition called "insulin resistance" eventually sets in.

The insulin resistance can get so bad that your pancreas can no longer produce enough insulin to push the blood sugar (glucose) into the cells. The blood sugar then rises out of control resulting in Type 2 Diabetes. Diabetes is simply an extreme case of insulin resistance...
Another problem that occurs in about half of all Type 2 Diabetics, is called "beta cell burnout." Beta cell burnout develops when your pancreas has been so overworked over the years producing insulin, that the beta cells in your pancreas which produce insulin, stop producing it altogether, or at a much decreased level, and not enough to help push the glucose into your body's cells.
    Unfortunately, there's more.

Interstitial Fluid and Type 2 Diabetes For Dummies / LIKE ME

More on Interstitial (Pronounced .......INTER STISH EL) fluid and why it is important that you understand what happened to yours and possibly how you got Type 2 Diabetes to begin with. This explanation is so SIMPLE it is scary and yet the more I read about the PH Miracle factor and this very special fluid, the more I think, this is where the research should be going on. I don't think, we should keep spending billions of dollars of research money on another prescription drug. I THINK it should be spent getting the word out on how to balance the PH of this fluid that bathes and surrounds our tissues and cells.

LINK to Reversing Insulin Resistance and Interstitial Fluid

    EXCERPT:

Insulin Resistance occurs when the internal environment, which is the interstitial fluid that surrounds your body cells becomes acidic and oxidative (due to years of unhealthy diet). Years of exposing to oxidation and acidosis had reduced the sensitivity of the insulin receptors on the cell membrane. And when insulin cannot open up the glucose channels to transport the glucose molecule into the cells to be used or stored, that forces those glucose molecules to bounce back into the blood stream.

READ THAT FIRST PARAGRAPH AGAIN, AS I BELIEVE IT HOLDS THE KEY TO UNLOCK THE MYSTERY OF TYPE 2 DIABETES.

In addition to external sources of glucose (such as high carbohydrate or sugar foods), there is another source of glucose which is hidden within your body, the liver. When your body needs energy, it will signal the liver to turn those stored fat (in the form of glycogen) into glucose through a process known as gluconeogenesis. Thus, your body will try to use up the stored glycogen first before it sends out the "hungry signal" asking you to eat.

The right question to ask is, "What causes insulin resistance and how we can reverse it?" You must understand and always remember that the actual root of the problem is acidosis and oxidation. Thus, you should focus on how to neutralize the acidic toxic and how to increase the anti-oxidative capability within your body instead of wasting your time searching for the latest diabetes drugs.
Continuously taking Metformin will never solve your problem. Taking those temporary solution drugs  only rolls the problem to build up a much bigger problem (kidney or liver failure) in the future.

    MY INPUT:

Will you EVER reverse your Type 2 Diabetes and improve your insulin resistance by taking diabetic drugs such as Metformin and Glipizide? Short answer is NO. You do NOT HAVE a diabetic drug deficiency and therefore continuously taking those diabetic drugs will NOT cure or REVERSE your diabetes.

    Dan

Milagro De La Selvo Tea (vs.) Metformin

In my recent research it appears that  the only real criticism of the Milagro tea is that is causes the pancreas to increase the production of INSULIN. I have been looking at some of the FDA approved commonly used diabetes drugs and am finding out that these drugs ALSO increase insulin production with a HOST of possible evil side effects.

    Partial list as follows:

How Do the Different Pills Work?
Oral diabetes medications attack the problem in three ways.
More insulin: Some pills stimulate your pancreas to produce more insulin. The first successful “diabetes pills” were the sulfonylureas (glyburide, glipizide, glimepiride, tolazamide, chlorpropamide, and tolbutamide). These are insulin secretagogues, that is, chemicals that cause your pancreas to produce more insulin. When you take these medications, your body is still not processing insulin as effectively as it should, but there is more of it in your bloodstream to process.

There was a comment in my last post from one of the forum contributors, who indicated that the moderator also believed in Santa Claus if they honestly felt that the FDA would be all over promoting any natural product as successful as this tea appears to be. I tend to lean towards that direction. There have been horror stories for years of the FDA repressing knowledge and research in the natural product arena while promoting and approving drugs like Avandia.

    EXCERPT on Avandia:

Avandia Side Effects May Have Hurt or Killed 100,000 People: Draft Study

A draft study by an FDA scientist has linked side effects of Avandia to tens of thousands of heart problems among elderly users, and suggests that more than 100,000 Americans may have suffered heart attacks, strokes or other problems from Avandia since the drug was introduced.
The draft Avandia study (pdf) was performed by drug safety reviewers from FDA and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). According to a story by Pharmalot, a drug reviewer at the FDA is pushing for the study to be published in a medical journal in the near future, while the FDA is continuing its own analysis of the safety of GlaxoSmithKline’s diabetes drug.
The researchers performed an observational study looking at data from more than 227,000 Avandia users over the age of 65 and compared those with users of the competing diabetes drug Actos, by Takeda Pharmaceuticals. They found that in that age group, Avandia increased the risk of stroke by 27%, the risk of heart failure by 25%, and the risk of death by 13%. Overall, the researchers estimated that 48,000 elderly users experienced an event attributable to Avandia side effects.

Here is a link and an excerpt from The Health Ranger's website on the dangers of FDA approved drugs and the injuries and deaths resulting from these drugs they have approved. You may want to add MIKE ADAM's website to your favorites.

    Mike Adams On FDA Abuses

    SHORT EXCERPT:

FDA-approved prescription drugs injure 2.2 million and kill approximately 100,000 Americans each year, according to peer-reviewed published studies, and more realistic estimates put the number of deaths at over 200,000 people annually in the United States alone (see Death By Medicine for detailed statistics). Vioxx, according to senior FDA drug safety researcher Dr. David Graham, appears responsible for the deaths of over 60,000 Americans, and further deaths due to beta blockers, antidepressant drugs, statins and other medications continue to mount by the hour.
The resulting FDA body count of American casualties makes the casualties of war look small in comparison. The Vietnam War claimed the lives of approximately 50,000 Americans (plus many more Vietnamese), and a memorial in Washington D.C. honors those who died. But FDA-approved prescription drugs have killed well over a million Americans, yet no memorial will be built, no honors bestowed, and now the FDA would deny the families of those victims their legal right to fight for any sort of compensation.

Let's go back to Metformin which I have been taking since first being diagnosed as a type 2 Diabetic. Here is a list of side effects for Metformin:

Based on these studies, the most common metformin side effects include:
Ø      Diarrhea — occurring in up to 53.2 percent of people
Ø      Nausea or vomiting — in up to 25.5 percent
Ø      Gas — in up to 12.1 percent
Ø      Weakness — in up to 9.2 percent
Ø      Indigestion — in up to 7.1 percent
Ø      Abdominal discomfort (or stomach discomfort) — in up to 6.4 percent
Ø      Headache — in up to 5.7 percent.
    Ø      Lactic Acidosis
     Other Metformin Side-Effects listed:
     Dizziness
    Headache
    Vomiting
    Anxious feeling
Behavior change similar to being drunk
    Blurred vision
    Cold sweats
    Confusion
    Convulsions (seizures)
    Cool pale skin
    Cough
    Difficulty in concentrating
    Drowsiness
    Excessive hunger
    Fast heartbeat
    Fever
    Headache (continuing)
    Nausea
    Nervousness
    Nightmares
    Restless sleep
    Shakiness
    Slurred speech
    Sneezing
    Sore throat
    Unconsciousness
    Unusual tiredness or weakness
    Abdominal or stomach discomfort
    Decreased appetite
    Diarrhea
    Fast shallow breathing
    General feeling of discomfort
    Muscle pain or cramping
    Unusual sleepiness

There it is, and we have so much information about Metformin and it’s possible side-effects. You should report any side effects you have to you medical professional.

LAST but NOT least, Metformin apparently also increases production of insulin. Does that mean if the FDA approves a  prescription drug that in part works by increasing production of insulin that is OK?, however if a natural product does the same thing without side effects, that is NOT OK?

Admittedly I am just finding out about this special tea and there may possibly be more to it, however on the surface, I would personally opt for the natural product every time.

It is commonly believed at least in essence, that the Hippocratic Oath had a statement of "First Do No Harm". The following excerpt from a study on this reveals it is NOT exactly worded as such and yet the essence of what is written is in there.

    LINK to Hippocratic Oath:

    EXCERPT:

I will follow that system of regimen which, according to my ability and judgment, I consider for the benefit of my patients, and abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous. I will give no deadly medicine to any one if asked, nor suggest any such counsel; and in like manner I will not give to a woman a pessary to produce abortion. With purity and with holiness I will pass my life and practice my Art. I will not cut persons laboring under the stone, but will leave this to be done by men who are practitioners of this work. Into whatever houses I enter, I will go into them for the benefit of the sick, and will abstain from every voluntary act of mischief and corruption; and, further from the seduction of females or males, of freemen and slaves.

Perhaps the FDA should revisit the above.
