More On Heart Disease and Sugar in its Many Forms!

If you are willing to do some research on your own, it is easy to find the link between heart disease and SUGAR. It is NOT saturated fat that causes heart disease, however the consumption of too much sugar whether it is by the teaspoon full, or the hidden glucose in simple empty calorie carbs, candy, processed cereals and almost all processed foods including many canned goods and 99% of the crunchie/munchie isle of your local supermarket. Someday when you have nothing to do, take a SLOW walk down the snack isle of your grocery and pick up bags of potato chips, crackers, cookies, donuts, etc. and READ the labels. You will find there is little or no nutritive value in any of the items. You will also find a great deal of sodium and hidden sugar in all of them. The same thing can be said for eating at most fast food restaurants or coffee shops.

Take a look:

Here is additional information you may not know about:

The recent CDC study adds to growing evidence that sugar — not dietary fat — is connected to numerous health woes, including cardiovascular disease. Experience Life previously looked at research into the relationship between sugar, saturated fat and heart disease:
[A] large meta-analysis recently published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition finds no significant link between saturated fat and heart disease. More importantly, the meta-analysis (which looked at 21 studies involving about 350,000 people) finds that refined carbs and processed sugar are the real culprit when it comes to heart disease.
The problem with cutting out saturated fat is two-fold: Not only is saturated fat needed for a variety of biochemical functions within our bodies, including proper cell, nerve and brain function, but also, when people restrict saturated fat from their diets, they tend to replace it with refined carbohydrates.
“If you reduce saturated fat and replace it with high glycemic-index carbohydrates, you may not only not get benefits — you might actually produce harm,” David Ludwig, MD, PhD, director of the Obesity Program at Children’s Hospital Boston, recently said. He adds that when it comes to a piece of buttered toast, “butter is actually the more healthful component.”

MORE on Cause of Heart Attacks and HOW to Prevent Them

I recently read a lengthy article written by Thomas S. Cowan, MD concerning the real cause of heart attacks and it isn't saturated fat, or eating red meat.

For over 50 years the medical community has been telling us heart disease is caused in the arteries by a buildup of blockage called PLAQUE. In the article I read this conventional theory of heart disease is largely MISLEADING.

In the last 50 years or so the article points out that the pursuit of the coronary artery theory has cost this nation billions of unnecessary surgical costs, and billions in medications that cause as much harm as any real or imagined positive benefits and promoted the (Low FAT diet which has only worsened the problem).

Mr. Cowan gives credit to the work of Dr. Knut Sroka and his website entitled, heartattacknew.com. He indicates that you should read the ENTIRE website and watch the video for a better understanding. One important item in the video shows that "collateral circulation" nourishes the heart EVEN WITH a SEVERE blockage of a coronary artery.

MY INPUT: This was an eye opener for me when I first read about it as I had a quadruple heart bypass in 2013 and was told that I have a "widow makers heart" and surgery was the ONLY answer for my longevity and it had to be done quickly. Although insurance paid the 99% of the procedure, my bypass surgery amounted to round figures........$100,000.

Since my operation and recovery, I have spent a great deal of time researching the real (and NOT imagined cause of heart attacks) and IF I were faced with bypass surgery today with the knowledge I now have, I would likely have opted out of the surgery. In other words it is very personal to me. SEE my multiple posts on heart disease and the contributions made by Dr. Linus Pauling and Dr. Matthias Rath and the Nobel Prize won by Linus Pauling for the CURE of heart disease.

Back to Thomas Cowan MD's article:

For the last 50 years or so, the theory was that most heart attacks were caused by progressive blockage caused by plaque in the 4 major coronary arteries leading to the heart. These plaques were though to be composed of cholesterol that over time built up in the arterial lumen (inside of the blood vessel), which eventually cut off blood supply to a certain area of the heart, which in turn led to an oxygen deficiency in that area, causing pain (angina) and then progressing to a HEART ATTACK.

THE SIMPLE AND (expensive FOR US while being very profitable for the medical community and pharmaceutical companies) was to UNblock the stenosis or blockage by bypass surgery or perhaps putting in a tent. In addition the patient was told to follow a LOW fat diet and be placed on one or more statin drugs, aspirin a day therapy and over time more prescription drugs and stronger doses of same.

It is impossible to share all the info on this post that was contained in the artery, however I will mention a large study conducted in 2003 by the Mayo Clinc on the effectiveness of bypass surgery, stents and angioplasty.

IN SHORT, the study proved bypass surgery does relieve symptoms of heart attack (I.E chest pain), however it does NOT prevent further heart attacks, and only very HIGH risk patients benefit from any bypass surgery with any regard to a better chance of survival

IF YOU WATCH the video mentioned above, you will learn that in most OVER 90 PERCENT blocked arteries in almost  all cases , COLLATERAL OR ADDITIONAL NEW BLOOD VESSELS ARE CREATED BY YOUR BODY to compensate for the blockage.

New International Version Psalm 139:14
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

God Bless

Dan

I strongly encourage you to pull up the artcle by Thomas S. Cowan MD which I found on the Mercola Video Library and also the article and video mentioned above.

Have a blessed and healthy New year.

Real Cause of Heart Disease and NO, It isn't FAT!

If you read and study enough, one can begin to narrow in on the cause of heart disease which tends to affect those folks who are also Type II Diabetics. Theories abound over what to eat and what to avoid and it seems there is a lot of conflicting information going around at times. As an example, "Saturated Fat" seems to be the culprit and we have been told numerous times to eat a LOW FAT diet to avoid heart disease. After much study and reading it seems to me that is the wrong approach. Extra virgin olive oil, extra virgin cold pressed Coconut Oil etc. are actually beneficial to your heart health.

I believe the real culprit is NOT saturated fats, or eating red meat, etc. I think there is strong evidence out there that we should be avoiding sugar in its many forms, especially when it come from empty calorie, vitamin and mineral deficient foods and 99% of what you will find in the "crunchie/munchie" isle of your local grocery store. Simple carbs which turn quickly to sugar and elevate one's blood glucose levels while providing little or NO nutritive value at all.

Here are some excerpts from an article I came across recently agreeing with that premise:

http://www.drsinatra.com/sugar-is-a-major-cause-of-heart-disease/

EXCERPTS:

For years, we’ve been told to watch our fat intake. But if you saw me on Dr. Oz’s show, you heard me say that the real villain in heart disease isn’t fat—but sugar. With Americans eating a diet that’s high in sugar, and other refined carbohydrates that are converted to sugar, we’re unwittingly giving ourselves heart disease in record numbers.

How Sugar Causes Heart Disease

The problem with sugar is that it contributes to inflammation of the arterial walls. It does that by generating an insulin spike, and when insulin spikes continuously it starts to ravage the fragile, but ultra-important endothelial lining of blood vessels. If the endothelial lining becomes damaged, all the well-known causes of heart disease problems swarm to the scene and create the inflammatory mayhem that eventually leads to heart attack and stroke.

What’s worse is that excessive sugar consumption can also cause weight gain. Weight gain, combined with sustained high insulin levels, can lead to insulin resistance and diabetes—which further increases your risk of cardiovascular disease.
Beware of high fructose corn syrup. Most of the sugar you eat is “hidden,” usually under the guise of high fructose corn syrup.
Limit alcohol intake. This includes wine, beer and liquor. Many people don’t realize that alcohol contains a large store of hidden sugar.
Eat an anti-inflammatory Pan-Asian Mediterranean (PAM) diet. My heart-healthy PAMM eating plan includes 40 to 45 percent slow-burning, low-glycemic index carbohydrates; 35-40 percent healthy fats; and 20-25 percent protein—all of which help to reduce inflammation.
Restrict bread and bread products as much as you can, especially those containing wheat. I strongly recommend you read The Wheat Belly by Dr. William Davis. I’m sure you’ll agree. ( I have been on the wheat belly diet plan for a while now and try to avoid all bread products...I DO ALLOW myself a bowl of Quaker oats for breakfast along with a handful of seedless grapes, a handful of blueberries and a tablespoon of organic ground flax seeds)
MY INPUT:

There are numerous articles out there indicating the damage done to your body by too much sugar. One of them is developing type 2 diabetes and consequently high blood pressure and heart disease.
Try and build your diet around fruits and vegetables, protein and adequate fiber and avoid any and all high glycemic foods in all their many forms. These high calorie, low nutrition, foods convert to glucose quickly in your digestive track and subsequently lead to inflammation, high blood pressure, heart disease and type 2 diabetes.
God Bless,
Dan

Type 2 Diabetes, Heart Disease and Tower labs Formula

In the past, I have written several blog posts regarding heart disease, diabetes and the medical community's "Lipid Theory of Heart Disease" (VS.) what I believe and that is the "Unified Theory of Heart Disease" as put forth by Dr. Linus Pauling and Dr. Matthias Rath and now endorsed by numerous others.

I had a quadruple heart bypass back in July of 2013. IF I had known then what I know now, I do not think I would have put myself through that procedure. Since the operation, I have been on supplements per Dr. Linus Pauling's recommendations. My A1C is now down in the 6.5 to 6.6 range. My blood lipid profile makes the doctor's happy. I have more energy than men half my age.

I am NOT on this particular formula that I  will show here from Tower labs, however I do take:

8000-10,000 mg of vitamin C daily and have sine my surgery
3000-6000 L-Lysine daily (in capsule form and from a quality WHEY protein source)
1000 mg L-Proline from the whey protein source
400 IU of Vitamin E
100 IU of Co-enzyme Q10

I am considering going on the Tower labs formula simply for convenience and having all the important recommended ingredients in one formula. I will post the link to some great reading and research here and an excerpt or two i hope you find interesting. Also thinking of adding a vitamin K supplement to the regimen.
