PSA Test Screening and Natural Supplements to Lower PSA Scores!

FIRST, let's take a look at Life Extension research stats on Cancer (vs.) Vitamin D intake.

On Page 10 of the May 2013 issue there is a chart showing cancer risk reduction due to HIGHER Vitamin D status as follows:

Cancer Primary Site          Risk Reduction with Increased Vitamin D Levels

Breast                                50%
Colon                                50%
PROSTATE                      49%
Ovary                                36%

This post concerns itself primarily with Prostate information. For aging males, this becomes an item to pay close attention to.

Life Extension organization was the 1st to discover that most supplement users have insufficient vitamin D levels unless they daily consume around 5000 IU of vitamin D. Insufficient is DEFINED as blood levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D under 50 ng/mL.

(note) I have personally taken 10,000 vitamin D3 daily for several years now with no negative side effects of any kind.

NOTE: My most current PSA score is in and the lab resuts are great. My PSA score is 0.40 and the normal range is 1.0 to 4.0, so my current PSA reading of 0.4 is fantastic for a man my age or any age. I attribute that to my supplement program including but not limited to a product called "BEST PROSTATE" which can be purchased on line.

The most common cancer striking men has a blood marker that can show early detection. Early detection is important in any form of cancer in men or women before metastasis strikes.

For MEN in the prostate arena the blood marker is PSA which stands for (prostate-specific antigen).

PSA readings caught early have been shown to spare tens of 1000,s of men from around 40 to 60 plus years of age, agonizing deaths from metastatic prostate cancer. If you are a guy, you have probably known someone who has died of prostate cancer and it is not pleasant.

Per Life Extension magazine article's May 2013 issue, most doctors and onocologists are NOT properly reading and more importantly interpreting PSA results or implementing any further diagnostic and treatment procedures.

To ADD insult to injury the United States Preventive Services Task Force suggest that aging men do not undergo PSA screening....AT ALL.

WHY are PSA tests important?  PSA is not just a marker for prostate disease, but also functions as an enzyme to break down natural barriers that surround cells. CANCER cells spew out PSA that digests the protective extracellular matrix or in lay men's terms, the tissues that surround cells. This then allows cancer cells to escape the prostate and metastasize to distant sites within the body.

LOWERING PSA levels can diminish the ability of cancer cells in your prostate gland to break down the healthy tissues that help contain them.

The article goes on to point out that if ones LDL is elevated, it can be reduced by simple lifestyle changes, nutrients and drugs. Your PSA levels are apparently not different. Prostate problems caught at an early age, might be reversible.

Conventional wisdom indicates that PSA levels under 4.0 ng/mL are considered NORMAL (?), however the Life Extension Researchers and staff view any reading over 1.0 ng/mL indicate unhealthy activity such as prostatitis, benign prostate hypertrophy or even prostate cancer.

The Life Extension folks indicate that BORON has shown promise in reducing one's PSA and possible protection against prostate cancer. The cite a report from UCLA showing than men with the highest boron intake reduced their cancer risk by 54% compared to those with the lowest BORON intake, This is NOT (A, "Thus saith the Lord recommendation") however daily doses of 6 to 15 mg of boron may become an effective and low cost supplement to add to your regimen.

Green Tea has been shown to be a natural inhibitor of PSA;s detrimental effects. They cite a study by Louisiana State university giving prostate cancer patients 1300 mg of green tea extracts  (mostly EGCG) prior to the time of a radical prostectomy and found a significant reduction in PSA and other tumor promoters such as vascular endothelial growth factor.

Lycopene (found in tomatoes) in supplementation of 10 mg daily  for 3 months has shown promise also.

On page 17 of the May 2013 issue there is a personal testimony showing LAB results for a William Faloon and his personal triumph story. It is WORTH ordering the may 2013 issue or an article re-print if still available.

Here is a partial list of natural nutrients this gentlemen took:

Milk Thistle Extract
Green Tea extract (decaffeinated)

In addition please see the cancer prevention properties of one of the oldest and most proven of type 2 diabetic drugs and that is METFORMIN. I have been on metformin since i was first diagnosed as a diabetic. I also take Milk Thistle Extract every day in addition to a product called CholesLo.

Lastly I take a product called Best Prostate for several years now. Here is a link to that product also:
