One Of The Best Brain Supplement's You Should Be Taking

I am a BIG FAN of the work that the Life Extension Folks do and enjoy their magazine articles. Most of the information for this post comes from research done by www.LifeExtension.com.

In an article from 2013, I found that Alzheimer's is the second MOST FEARED disease, with cancer still ranking #1. Alzheimer's incidence increases exponentially as we age. IF we make it to the 80-85 age bracket you have a 25-30% chance of having Alzheimer's.

Right now there are approximately 5 million Americans who have Alzheimer's and that is expected to grow to 8.6 million by 2030 and 16 million by 2050.

I already take tumeric/curcumin  supplements everyday along with DHA from fish oil and other nutrients for overall health including reducing senility.

First of all let's look at the incredible role that magnesium plays in our overall health:

Magnesium is needed for more than 300 biochemical reactions in the human body. It helps maintain normal muscle and nerve function, supports a healthy immune system and keeps bones strong. It also helps regulate blood sugar levels, (promotes normal blood pressure**) and is known to be involved in energy metabolism and protein synthesis. There is an increased interest in the role of magnesium in preventing and managing disorders such as hypertension and cardiovascular disease and DIABETES.

** IF your blood glucose levels are high, much of the magnesium in your body is flushed out through your urine which in turn elevates your BP likely causing your doctor to prescribe blood pressure medicine or a higher dose or additional prescription etc.! You might very well solve the problem with more magnesium.

A highly absorbable form of magnesium protects the integrity of delicate brain synapses and increases synaptic density which in turn helps to reverse the structural loss of this critical brain component.

OKAY, I'm listening............what is a SYNAPSE?

Our brain has approximately 100 billion cells called neurons. For neurons to communicate with each other they need to be connected.

A synapse is the connection that allows information to pass from one neuron to the next. Your synapses control electrical impulses and the release of neurotransmitters between neurons. Brain synapses serve as a JUNCTION that enables neurons to pass signals in a synchronized/organized pattern.

The key here to remember is that synapses are ESSENTIAL to neuronal function.

In a series of unprecedented laboratory experiments, a highly absorbable form of magnesium (magnesium L-threonate) was shown not only to increase blood levels of magnesium, but to also substantially increase magnesium brain concentrations.

In response to this elevation in cerebral magnesium, there were significant increases in synaptic density and corresponding improvements in synaptic functioning and neuronal signaling. This activity resulted in improvements in measurements of cognitive function.

A study by the government shows that a staggering 68% of Americans do NOT consume the recommended daily intake of magnesium.

There are several sources of Magnesium L-Threonate in the marketplace:

LifeExtension.com
Dr. Mercola
Puritan Pride
Swanson vitamins
VitaCost

and others. I do NOT receive any remuneration from any of these outlets. If you care concerned about the long term effects of type 2 diabetes, memory loss from again, Alzheimer's, dementia etc. please take a LOOK at magnesium L-Threonate supplementation.

God Bless,

Dan
