One thing I did not like about the NutriSystem or any of the pre-packaged or canned foods etc. is that you are not getting the enzymes, vitamins and minerals present in raw fruits and vegetables. There is something about trying to maintain your weight loss by eating nothing but pre-packaged foods for the rest of your life or even every time you gain say 10 pounds that doesn't appeal to me. You also have the food additives, dyes, preservatives etc. to deal with.
Currently as this post is written you also have the hydrogenated oils, trans fats etc. to contend with and following quadruple bypass surgery, I want to stay as far away from those items as is humanly possible.
TO BE FAIR to NutriSystem I came across a forum on their products and will post a comment from NutriSystem here. They are moving in the direction of eliminating hydrogenated oils, trans fats etc. which should one choose to use their format to lose weight, it will be a better product. I am not impressed by their meeting the American Heart Association guidelines for foods as following some of their input will land you in the OR eventually.

Hi MagicCowboy,
Trans fats have been shown to contribute to heart disease risk, for example, by increasing the levels of bad cholesterol. Trans fat that can be produced when vegetable oils are partially hydrogenated, but it also exists in nature; common sources include milk and other dairy products, and meats such as beef and lamb. It is in part for this reason that federal food labeling law makes an allowance for a very low level of trans fat to be present without a labeling requirement. Nutrisystem foods are in full compliance with this law. However, Nutrisystem believes that this is a federal standard that our products should exceed. Therefore, we are working to eliminate all partially hydrogenated oils from our foods. In keeping with our strict guidelines, we do not want to achieve this goal, as some others might, by increasing the level of saturated fat. So it will take time for these changes to be put into effect, with adequate testing of product quality, but we are committed to making the change.
In the meantime, rest assured that the Nutrisystem plans are heart healthy. Our nutritional guidelines are consistent with the recommendations of the American Heart Association; furthermore, the Nutrisystem-D program meets the dietary recommendations set both by the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association. A published clinical trial conducted by Temple University of the use of Nutrisystem-D in patients with type 2 diabetes found not only weight loss, but significant improvements in plasma cholesterol, triglycerides, systolic blood pressure, and measures of glycemic control compared to the control group. Carrying excess weight is a leading modifiable risk factor for heart disease. Nutrisystem is a safe and effective means to lose weight.
