Baby Aspirin (81mg) Therapy?

I did a post some time ago on the potential internal bleeding dangers of baby aspirin therapy for type 2 diabetics. I started on that regimen for a short time and have since discontinued it in light of articles like the one in this I am going to post below. The article mentions statistics indicating about 40 fewer deaths for every 100,000 people who are on the baby aspirin regimen. DO THE MATH....../THAT AMOUNTS TO A .0004% OF AVOIDING A HEART ATTACK BY TAKING BABY ASPIRIN (while at the same time)100 out of 100,000 or .001% will likely suffer gastrointestinal bleeding which might result in death, OR 10 out of 100,000 will suffer a STROKE OR perhaps age related macular degeneration and blindness.

I know that the aspirin therapy is almost status quo in the medical field and it seems that every doctor in America just automatically assumes everyone over the age of puberty should be on an aspirin regimen. It is so accepted as "The Thing To Do" that hardly anyone even asks any questions about it anymore. This information is from one of the "Health Related" newsletters I get in my email every day. This one is from HSI and mirrors a previous post I did on the dangers of aspirin therapy.

Something else to CONSIDER: Pycnogenol (Pine Bark Extract) in place of aspirin

Pycnogenol has been shown to:

  • Support membrane function by promoting the integrity and normal characteristics of cell membranes.84-87
  • Support healthy DNA function through antioxidant activity and possibly other mechanisms.88-91
  • Ease inflammation by normal modulation of inflammatory cytokine molecules.92-96
  • Fight oxidative stress by supporting the normal functioning of healthy antioxidant systems to help suppress free radicals and protect DNA.97-102
  • Fight glycation by supporting cellular metabolism of sugar, healthy fasting, and post-meal blood sugar levels already within normal range, and normal sugar absorption in the intestine.103-1

He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?

Here is information on  perhaps why you should:

"Dear Reader,

It's called "baby." So how dangerous could it possibly be?

Yes...how could something as innocent and tiny as a "baby" aspirin hide such a dangerous secret?

Easy. It's a secret because it's mostly ignored.

But new research could change that. In fact, this ought to be a blaring wake-up call for everyone whose doctor told them to start the day with that little 81 mg pill.

Don't hit the snooze button
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A new study is touted as the "most comprehensive review" ever of the benefits and risks of daily aspirin therapy. And at first it looks like good news.

Researchers found that a daily low-dose of aspirin apparently does have life-saving benefits. But your chances of reaping those benefits are about as likely as hitting the PowerBall.

Results show that about 40 fewer heart-related deaths occur for every 100,000 people who follow the baby aspirin routine.

Not great odds, but worth a shot, right?

No. Not worth it at all.

Researchers also found that about 100 of those aspirin users experience gastrointestinal bleeding. And many of those cases will result in death. Also, about 10 will suffer a stroke caused by the aspirin use.

These risks are clearly not worth the scant chance that you'll reap any benefits.

And this study doesn't even mention another terrible danger.

Just this year we learned that aspirin use could lead to blindness through age-related macular degeneration. In one study, those who took a daily low-dose aspirin were TWO TIMES more likely to develop wet AMD -- a leading cause of blindness.
If you want to do something every day to keep your heart healthy, do yourself a BIG favor. Toss the aspirin bottle and take another pill instead -- a daily magnesium supplement.

A recent study shows that just 250 mg of magnesium dramatically reduces heart disease risk. Magnesium helps keep arteries elastic, while also helping control blood sugar -- two things your heart thrives on.

And I probably don't need to add this, but I will... Magnesium causes no side effects. That's something nobody will ever be able to claim about the "wonder drug" aspirin."
